"After all, who is our hope, joy, or reason for boasting in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming? It is you, isn't it?" (I Thessalonians 2:19)

"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so it is through Jesus that God will bring back with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have died. With a shout of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of God's trumpet, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." (I Thessalonians 4:14-17)

"May the God of peace himself make you holy in every way. And may your whole being-spirit, soul, and body-be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (I Thessalonians 5:23)

"Now we ask you, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, not to be so quickly upset or alarmed when someone claims that we said either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come. Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day cannot come unless the rebellion takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of God and declares himself to be God." (II Thessalonians 2:1-4)

"And let us continue to consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another even more as you see the day coming nearer." (Hebrews 10:24-25)

"For 'in a very little while the one who is coming will return and will not delay;'" (Hebrews 10:37)

Some don't believe that Paul wrote the Epistle to the Hebrews, but I included it, since it is possible. I hope that helps some.

Paul talks about the return of Jesus at least 7 times in 1st and 2nd Thessalonians Jesus return is unexpected for the wicked...not for the church... and 'the man of lawlessness' must come before the falling away

I think the main arguments for an imminent return might be from Jesus when He says things like be ready and no man knows the day or the hour... keep it in persective... American Christians are more into escotology than pretty much anyone else in history... and Jesus said "it is not for you to know" when the disciples asked Jesus about the timing of the restoration of Israel... but they shall recieve power to do what they are supposed to do

the imminent return is still somewhat interpretive, usually people favoring a pre trib rapture like it... and others don't
I'm not sure I would give it as high priority as it sometimes gets, there are more important issues

In Romans 16:20, Paul says God will "soon crush Satan". In Colossions 3:6 he says "the wrath of God" is coming. The most detailed actual mention of Christ's coming is in 1 and 2 Thessalonians, but it is definitely not "imminent". In 1 Thess 4:15, he reassures his listeners that those "who have fallen asleep" won't miss anything. In 2 Thess 2, he tells them not to get worked up by some prophecy that suggests the Day of the Lord has already happened. There is something in Hebrews 10:37, but some say that letter is not Pauline.

Heb.9
[28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

ONLY to those who LOOK for him, shall he appear.

Mark 13
[26] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
So the son of man comes in the clouds. What are clouds and what do they represent? The "sun" warms the sea and the clouds are formed. This is a spiritual message. Remember in the end there will be no more sea. The sea represents mankind. Mankind raised to a new spiritual awareness through the warmth of the sun (son) is the clouds formed. Christ comes in you (in cloud).

Col.1
[27] To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope.

Christ comes in you.

2Pet.3
[10] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;

He comes as a thief in the night. Why does a thief come in the night? because all is asleep. So how will we know that he has come?....Wake up, of course.

Eph.5
[14] Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Rom.13
[11] And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

So from this searching, I would say that the return of Jesus will be for those who look for him and it will most likely be a spiritual awakening rather than some guy coming out of the sky.

I guess not all of this was Paul's writting, but I could't help myself.

The imminency of Christ means that he could return at any moment- including within the next 15 minutes!

Sorry, but that is not going to happen! Paul no where talks of such a return! Some, especially those of the rapture view, hold to such false expectations!

There is much prophecy yet to be fullfilled BEFORE Christ returns- thus destroying the doctrine of imminency!!!
