Seeing how I have my religion I can only guess. But I'll say that they either don't care, they want one at the funeral parlor, or they don't want one and want whatever done with their bodies after their dead.

I can't say that I even want a funeral. Funerals are for the living. You're dead, so funerals are merely for the comfort of the living.

I'd rather my family do something like sit around a campfire or just talk to each other about what they knew about me. Tell funny stories, smile and remember me for who I was, rather than praying that I go somewhere that, well, I flat out don't believe exists.

Burial? Cremate me and scatter my ashes someplace I was fond of spending my time at, be it my home, a park, whatever.

You need to be enlightened on FAR more than the funeral wishes of individual atheists.

They don't believe in "nothing". They just don't believe in the existence of God or gods.

I'm not an atheist, but why, pray tell, would you think that an atheist wouldn't want ot have his/her body buried in a family plot, or (if a veteran) in a Veteran's Cemetary, or any other option that religious people might choose?

Actually, atheists have their funeral at the funeral home. Some have very nice services, where friends and loved ones speak about the deceased person, read poems, favourite songs can be played or sung. It just does not include religion. By the way I am a Christian who has attended these funerals.

What does your question even mean?

What do you mean by atheists believing in nothing?

As far as I know atheists believe there is no God, so that is a belief in something.

And what does that have to do with backyard funerals?

Wouldn't the majority of atheists just want to be buried or cremated with a funeral, like anyone else? They'd probably just want a funeral that was devoid of religious talk.

Use your brain.

You are confusing the word "atheist" with the word "nihilist."

Atheist is a descriptive term for a person who doesn't believe in god.

Nihilists believe in nothing.

Atheists have beliefs but these beliefs aren't always shared beliefs and there is no dogmatic acceptance of any set of beliefs that all atheists hold. There is only the common disbelief in gods.

Now, with that cleared up, it's up to the individual as to how they would like to be celebrated in death. The funeral isn't for the person who died... it's for the people left behind.

I want my funeral to be at a place where those who love me will come. It'd be nice if it was in view of an ocean, or perhaps a grove of redwoods.

By the way, it's incorrect to say that atheists "believe in nothing". We just don't believe that myths are true. I do believe that human kind is smart enough that we'll eventually let go of our myths.

atheists do not believe in nothing--they believe that some religious people are not very nice to humans but love god--something they cannot see or speak to. something they've been told about but cannot prove. i want my funeral to be whatever is most convenient for those who love me to have it. i want to be buried or cremated because my body will be of no use to anyone, especially me once I die. it's funny, i have the feeling that you already think that you're enlightened and nobody else is as smart as you.

It will take a bit more than my answer to enlighten you, I fear.

Atheist do not "believe in nothing". I do not believe in *god*.

My funeral will be held in the Unitarian Universalist church where I was married.

My body will be donated to the local University so that future health care professionals may learn from it..

I'm not an atheist, I'm a Deist, but I will be dead I and won't care. Personally, I would prefer there not even be a funeral, I think they're a waste of money. I would prefer that money be given to help others.

The judicial gadget ahs no longer something to do with God. And we do not remember on God becasue we do not pick to be held in charge, that's because we do not believe. And if God had any say contained in the judicial gadget, why are all of those rapists and murderers getting out of penal complicated purely to do it again??
