....or the Easter Bunn and other things SUPPOSEDLY related to religion. Because of our religion my parents never told use these fables so we knew but we were also told not to point out these blatant lies to any other children our age. I will never forget when my aunt told my cousin the truth about Santa….she cried all night long. I just don’t understand why…if people do in fact believe the vague religions premises for these holidays why do they lie. All thorough the bible it states that lying=bad truth=good. John had a lot to say about lying vs. telling the truth but the tone is there throughout the bible: John 8:32 John 8:44 John 4:23, 24
I’m not touching on the biblical principals vs. the pagan influences of Christmas or Easter or whatever holiday that promotes lying to children I just would like to know why good and decent people make the mistake of lying to kids only to reveal the truth when they are older.
Why do parent’s lie?

I think your problem is largely not understanding "truth".
Like many religious people you have zero tolerance for anything but literal, linear truth. This is really the most boring and superficial truth there is. This is were wars are caused and we try and kill those who don’t think the way we do. Literal truth can’t see the forest from the trees.
Another type of truth is allegorical or mythical truth. This is the really cool truth that is so profound it can only be alluded to in stories and myth. I believe this is what religion really tries to do, but people come along and think it has to be the first type of truth above. Mythical truth is the only way a human mind can ever hope to grasp God. The mythical stories in the Bible, other holy books across all cultures, and even in "primitive" mythology touch upon something powerful and profound deep within us, that connects us to the transcendent.
My 5 year old is quite excited that Santa is coming soon. She has met him a few times at the mall and at some parties. When she gets older and starts to question the "truth" of Santa, I'll explain to her that I believe in kindness, giving and love, therefore I believe in Santa. The man in the red suit is a mythical representation of these intangible qualities.

It is nothing but a myth handed down from generation to generation about Santa Claus. In my culture it was to get the children to go to bed early so that Santa could come through and do his nightly tasks and not be seen when it was the parents all the time. This lie was so evasive until people believed this myth way up in age not knowing the truth and some indeed became angry with their parents.

My gosh! Are any of you harmed because your parents told you Santa brought you presents or the Easter bunny left you some chocolate?? It is a fun thing to do with a child. Can't say I am an worse for the wear because "Santa" came, and neither are my kids, and they do not think I am a "liar" for letting them believe either

Another point to that well written question. In this day and age when pedofiles are stalking children. I see parents take their kids to this strange man in a mask and now sit on his lap and tell him what gifts you want. Then they get the gifts and tell their kids this strange man with a mask bought you presents your selfish parents wouldn't get you. Then say don't Talk to strangers or let them give you gifts. How do you think the kids knows the difference from Santa Clause or the pedofile with a beard?
Come with me I'll give you a gift. Well, he did it before why not again. Can I sit on your lap and wisper in your ear what I want?
come on parents that is not a good idea.

I have a 19 month old daughter, who already knows what "pretend" means. I plan to use that word before the Santa Clause myth becomes too firmly rooted in her.

I'm glad mine didn't. It let me know I could trust them on the other things too. Plus I got to spoil all the fun for the other kids.
