Just wondering if it is possible that she is in heat but can't reproduce?
I adopted her from my vet that runs a kitten adoption agency thing and she was spayed when she was around 10-13 weeks old.
She is making these strange noises, very moody and is agressive towards my 8 week old kitten (though that hasn't really changed since we got the new kitten home!), not affectionate at all.

Did they remove everything properly? As they spayed her at the clinic and I don't even think I had to pay for the spaying, maybe they didn't do a great job?
Is this possible or not?

Also, when she sits down (sits on back legs; front legs down on the ground but standing up), something from her inside "hangs" down on her back feet and back paws.
I've felt it before and I know it's not fat, it's something firm and long I guess.

Sorry not a clear description and probably a real silly question!

Zoe:

No, they just told us she that they spayed her when they got her in. She had blue stiches on her belly when we got her, her belly was all shaved around the stiches and there is a little scar or parting of her fur where the cut was made so I am fairly certain that they did spay her and get rid of most of her reproductive organs.

I would be concerned about what is hanging down and inside of her. I've never heard of anyone having a kitten spayed that early. You have to wait at least 4 months for a female. All of her reproductive parts would not have beent here yet to remove. So it is very possible that she became mature with parts that still work. Have her checked out by a vet please! They do usually get a pouch after being spayed, but not like you are describing.

Just a quick note for everyone who says 13 weeks is too early to spay a cat: Many shelters have started spaying cats as early as 7-8 weeks, so they are already spayed when they are adopted. They are doing this because so many adopters are incredibly irresponsible about getting it done themselves, and will just keep bringing in litter after litter from a cat they got from a shelter and never got spayed. I've worked in shelters and seen it happen. There is nothing wrong with spaying a cat or dog this young-- all the parts are present before they are born, they are just smaller. And you'd be surprised-- their recovery time is incredibly quick, and generally shorter and easier than it is for older cats, even those only 5-6 months old. I suspect that the 8 week old is a new addition, and the older cat isn't happy about it, and is showing her displeasure. It doesn't sound like typical in-heat behavior. When cats are spayed, the ovaries and uterus are taken out, so there shouldn't be any signs of heat. Still, a visit to the vet isn't a bad idea. Good Luck!!

I am sorry honey...but she shouldn't be doing that. I would take her back to the clinic that spayed her if you know where that is or back to the adoption agency and have then look at her. Sounds to me like something didn't go right when they spayed her. Another thing - 10-13 weeks old is REALLY young to be spaying a kitten. A cat should not be spayed until she is at least 6 months old.

Cats do not usually exhibit signs of heat after being spayed. A spay is an ovariohysterectomy, meaning that both ovaries and the uterus are removed. It may be possible that part of an ovary was left in but I don't think that happens very often.
Aggression is not a usual symptom of being in heat. Cats usually get more friendly when in heat. There may be something else going on. If you haven't already done so, schedule an appointment with your vet.

If the 7 month old was actually spayed, she can not go into heat or reproduce anything. Think of spaying as a hysterectomy, there's nothing left there.
Could it be the new kitten has evoked some jealousy in the 7 mos. old?

Some vets charge slightly more for fixing an animal that is in heat, but as others said, it is perfectly healthy and safe for her. She will go back to normal after being spayed.

YES! It is possibly for your spayed cat to exhibit in-heat symptoms if the vet left in an ovary. I would take her to the vet. No respectable vet would only take her uterus out, but it can happen accidentally.
I also agree that it maybe she is unhappy with the other cat. Cat to cat introductions should take time to prevent problems see www.ddfl.org for any and all behavioral issues. Its a great site.

Regarding the spay and leaving something behind. Yes it can and does happen. I've had one cat that needed a return visit. But the other item you mentioned I would have looked at immediately. It can't be a good thing. Usually cats are so secretive about their discomfort that you can easily miss something but you noticed so take her in. Good luck

Your cat is not in heat, your cat sounds like she's in pain! Something hanging down from inside her? Get her to the vet! It could be actually be her intestines. I'm not kidding. It happened to one of my mom's cats once. Cats in heat will stick their rear ends in the air, tail high, and march in place.

Anyway, if she's been spayed, she's not in heat. She's hurting.
Help her!
