Yes sometimes it is better to keep your distance. Have you ever tried to talk to the family member and find out why you both continue to fight. There might be a reason and maybe it could be resolved! If it cant be resolved then yes keep your distance because the last thing you should do is upset children from adult disagreements.

Yes. Putting everyone else in the middle including the kids is not necessary and it's not healthy for the kids to be around fighting all the time. When you have to be around each other, be civil and stay away from any one on one conversations that could turn into a fight.

Yeah. If you've tried to get along and you feel like you're not making any forward progress, I do think it's best to just "keep your distance. You can be polite and cordial at family gatherings so that there won't be a lot of tension, but some personalities just do not mesh...and they never will.

Maybe, but maybe you could stop fighting unilaterally. Just start being polite no matter what the other person does, and have a sense of humor about it. In a lot of cases you don't have to avoid them completely, if you take this approach.

Do you know why you aree always fighting? Have you considered counseling? Try to find a way to be peaceful around each other if only for the rest of the household.

Sometimes things must be said to resolve conflicts, and sometimes keeping your distance is just impossible. Everyone knows that not everyone can like everyone. That is a fiven. If the kids don't like it, let them go somewhere else and not listen.

Odds are, neither of you knows what the original fight was even about ... however, if you naturally grate upon each other ... avoidance is best.
