alright, if you're sarcastic, i REALLY need your help. Do you act sarcastic to girls you like too? Or do you tone it down because you like them? because well, this guy i like is very sarcastic, & i asked him why he enjoys being sarcastic with me so much, & he said "you'll never know why." as if he was hiding something. i'm confused.

I sarcastic, therefore I am. Sarcasm is a defense mechanism. Men use it more so than women to defer the opposite sex. He has intimacy problems to a degree and they need be met with straightforwardness and honesty. I am sarcastic with women because it makes them laugh at first, and women, of course love to laugh. If he is continuing to do it after the first few meetings then you need to get in his face and politely say "you are sarcastic and make jokes with me because you have problems with getting close to me" ... and then he will make a sarcastic remark and say "no, you're not going to do this, I care for you and you needn't sabotage this relationship before it even gets started." It will work. There is a time to be serious and a time to be funny....remember, a woman doesn't want to be courted by a buffoon. Security stems from being serious.......tell him these things and he will start to grow up. That is, if you really want the relationship to work. Be well, and email me if you need any more of my blabbing, Jack

you're really taking a lot of the fun out of this. sarcasm can go both ways, and it really depends on how often and how pointed the underlying anger is to really determine is it's a passive hostility that's going on is just good, albeit it questionable, fun. is it at your own expense, and is it difficult for him to say anything to you without something smart or ugly being said? the latter isn't any fun, and if i catch myself going there a little bit too much, too conveniently, i have to bail out as a precautionary measure because that type of thing can get to be emotionally abusive and i wouldn't want anyone to treat me that way; honestly, to stay in it can constitute an unhealthy relationship. it's even worse if the sarcasm isn't so much in what is said, but how people are acting towards you. but in any event that isn't a true friend; plus why would you want to come across as some sort of masochist or something?
