Sorry but at the moment it's Johnson hands down. In the five years he's been in the Cup circuit no one has accrued more points or wins or top 10's then Johnson. Kahne is a great driver and I do think that he will eventually win a championship, but his team needs to improve drastically first. Johnson's team is in championship form.

And for every one saying Kahne should have won the cup etc. because of all his wins. First look at 2004 when Johnson had 8 wins and came in second. Secondly look at this ratio 1:6 That's JJ's to Kasey's DNFs.

Im a JJ fan, but without biased i can say that right now its Johnson over Kahne. He is just more consistent and as that is huge in NASCAR. With the way that the point system is set up, yes you habe to try to win, but you also have to learn when to take a top 20 finish instead of fighting for more positions and wrecking etc. and i dont think that kahne is at that point. That being said, i think that once kasey becomes consistent he is gunna be one of the best drivers in the sport, and maybe even win a championship himself. He showed this year that he has the skills.

Kahne. Kasey won the most races a could had won a cuple of more if he did not screw up or having engine problems with 6 to go. He could had won the championship if did not had the problems in the chase. Jimmie was not a contender for the championship until the fifth week. Kahne is always # 1 to me.

That is actually a very good question. If you go by the points system, Jimmie Johnson is the better driver. He was better in receiving points during the season to gather his first championship.

I'm kind of like you, however, in that Kasey Kahne could be considered the best for 2006 because he captured the most victories. That shows that Kasey was going for it more than the other drivers. Sometimes he would not make it to the finish, but it certainly was sweet when he found victory lane.

If NASCAR would change the points structure to reward winning, I think drivers like Jimmie Johnson would be trying to find ways to win races and not just have a good points day. They race to the system and the system rewards consistency, not necessarily winning.

This year, it is obviously Johnson. He was the one who actually won the championship, which means that he not only raced well, but raced well in points. Jimmie was pretty good under pressure, unlike some chase drivers, and really raced hard to win the chase. Kahne is good, but folded under pressure just a little bit. Kahne is a very good driver, though, and I see a championship or two in his future!

Its gotta be Johnson! Kahne won 1 race in 2005 and won 6 in 2006. Other than that he just has been good. Johnson has been one of the top drivers the past 4 years! Ever since he started, he has been considered a contender! Kahne might be compared to Johnson later in his career, but now is not the time!

Kahne and Doge are just getting to the point where they will be a force the next few years. He is with a fairly new team, trying to find there spot in Nascar. Jimmy has been in one of the top teams with the best equipment and people. Kahne has had much more to over come than Johnson, so I will go with Kahne.

I said Jimmie. Kahne has been in NASCAR only 3 yrs. he has show he knows how to drive a car and knows how to win races, its true that he won more races than any other driver this year, but he wasn't consistent enough to compete for the cup at the end. He also has six DNF this year.
Jimmie well he is the newest Champ, trough the season he was consistent all year long, even in his bad months(august, september)he was getting top tens. Plus, Jimmie has more years in cup to show more numbers.
I said Kasey will be a champion in a future.

Johnson, since coming to the Nextel Cup in 2001 he has finished in the top five for the championship every year and was 2nd twice. Now he has finally won. Don't get me wrong, I like Kahne and he is a great driver, give him a couple more years and he could have the championship in his hands. I just think it will be at least 2 more seasons.
