Homemade pumpkin pies absoultely should be refrigerated. Any custard-based pie contains eggs, dairy, etc. which can turn into an ugly bacteria party in a hurry.

Store-bought pies generally have preservatives added which allow them to be stored at room temperature, at least while they're in the store. While you can PROBABLY get away with keeping these on your kitchen counter, it's safer to go ahead and stick them in the fridge if you can. Better safe than sorry.

It should definitely be refrigerated to avoid it going sour, creating mould or developing salmonellosis.
A pumpkin pie will last well up to 3 days in the fridge...Though if you have good eaters around you probably won't have to worry about it lasting that long!

Its optional whether you want to keep it out or want to put it in the fridge. It should be fine on the counter since you just finish making it. I prefer to keep mine in the fridge that way it is nice and cool when ready to eat and it tastes a little better too. However both ways are fine :) I love pumpkin pie :P

No, but it will last longer if it is. I put mine in the fridge overnight but leave it on the counter for daytime so I can enjoy it at room temp.
