Really there is only ONE thing that divides Christians -- all other things are symptoms. The one thing that divides Christians is either respecting and following Bible authority OR putting greater importance on the opinions of man. Once people start not following Bible authority, the way is opened for as many differences are there are differences in peoples' opinions.

All people professing to be Christians should look at these three tests of Bible authority ...
1. Is there a direct commandment?
2. Is there an Apostolic example?
3. Is there a necessary inference?

If your church cannot back their doctrine based on the above three questions, it is just opinions & wisdom of man rather than God.

Excellent Question! I applaud you! There are many good answers. The gifts of the Holy Ghost is an excellent answer, but I believe what divides most Christians more than any one other thing is, of course a problem made by man. Interpretation of the Bible. For the Mom that is a Jehovah's witness, and has trouble with the idea of hell being a place of torment, I would suggest she read Luke 16: 19 -31. This is Jesus talking of the rich man and Lazarus. Also look at Matthew 18: 8 & 9. Jesus is talking again, and is talking about man burning in hell fire. He IS TO BE believed, whether you like what He is saying, or not! That is why I do not follow Jehovah's Witnesses. They believe what they like. You cannot do this - Jesus means what He says! That is a perfect example for you. One sect's reading and FALSELY interpreting the Bible! You can see for yourself that this is NUMBER ONE in what divides professing Christians!

nicely, i'm a Christian so i don't be attentive to too plenty related to the Muslim faith, yet from what i be attentive to, it extremely is the uncomplicated difference: Christians have self belief that Jesus Christ substitute into the Messiah (saviour) and Muslims do no longer. they are nevertheless waiting for the prophesized saviour to return. oh, and from what i pay attention and be attentive to, the Bible and Quaran (muslim bible) are the comparable or a minimum of extremely comparable as much as Abraham and Isaac, somewehre around there, and then the thoughts (checklist of historical past of direction) diverges, and circulate in distinctive guidelines. So the prophesy of the messiah substitute into the comparable interior the initiating.

What divides Christians is the teachings of Tertullian and Origen in the 3rd century AD. Tertullian led the west into a faith that centered on following the rules, Origen led the east into a faith that was based on certain knowledge to attain redemption. Both strayed from the original teaching of Christ, so its no wonder there is division. They all say they are Christians, but their attitudes to others leaves much to be desired in my opinion.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit ..its crazy how strong some churches believe in speaking in tounges and laying on of hands and then how some don't believe in it at all at some levels.
1 Corinthians 14:23
So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand [ Or some inquirers] or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?

1 Corinthians 14:39
Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

Well, there are no beliefs that divide the Catholic Church. The teaching of the Catholic faith is universal, throughout the world and across twenty centuries. In Protestantism, I guess you could say there isn't any belief that doesn't divide denominations, because there is virtually no belief held in common by all Protestants - except of course the Protestant tradition that the Bible is the sole source of Christian truth, and that tradition is the source of all the other conflicting beliefs, and of denominationalism itself. I wonder how they interpret, "that they all may be ONE"?

Maybe water immersion baptism. There is one Christian denomination which believes you must be immersed in water after declaring your faith in Jesus in order to "really" be saved and go to heaven.

I believe if that were true, then we would be helping to participate in our own salvation with a "work", therefore I disagree with that view.

But here's something else. I believe if a person refuses to be publicly baptized, because of shame or shyness or whatever, that person didn't really become a Christian anyway.

It isn't the scripture which divides us. It's our definition of terms.

The idea of hell as a place of everlasting torment. I am associated with Jehovah's Witnesses, and this is probably one of the most argued points we come across in our ministry. Romans 6:23 tells us that "the wages sin pays is DEATH, but the gift God gives is EVERLASTING LIFE through Jesus Chrit our Lord." So I believe that we have those two choices: life everlasting in a relationship with Jehovah, or death with no hope of a resurrection. Great question, BTW! :)

The True Founder of Christianity

The teachings of Paul, the true founder of Christianity, cannot be found anywhere in the teachings of Jesus or in those of prophets before him.

GOD will proclaim, "This is a day when the truthful will be saved by their truthfulness."
[5:116] GOD will say, "O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, `Make me and my mother idols beside GOD?' " He will say, "Be You glorified. I could not utter what was not right. Had I said it, You already would have known it. You know my thoughts, and I do not know Your thoughts. You know all the secrets.

[5:117] "I told them only what You commanded me to say, that: `You shall worship GOD, my Lord and your Lord.' I was a witness among them for as long as I lived with them. When You terminated my life on earth, You became the Watcher over them. You witness all things.

[5:118] "If You punish them, they are Your constituents. If You forgive them, You are the Almighty, Most Wise."

[5:119] GOD will proclaim, "This is a day when the truthful will be saved by their truthfulness." They have deserved gardens with flowing streams. They abide therein forever. GOD is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. This is the greatest triumph.

[5:120] To GOD belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth, and everything in them, and He is Omnipotent.
