I have a hard lump on the right side of my jaw in front of my ear. The doctor said it might be in my lymph node. I have to go for a catscan. Should i be worried?

The lump is hard and it doesn't hurt and has been there for about 2 months. I am too old for it to be from wisdom teeth and i have not been sick for a while. I doesn't move. I recently developed supposedly a salivary stone on the other side after i noticed the lump on the right side. The doctor said something is going on. So My ENT that was referred to me by my PCP, is very well known and a great doctor. I am going for a cat scan Tuesday..

This could possibly be a parotid tumor. Don't be afraid- they are usually benign, although it is a good idea to get them checked out. I had one for a couple of years. Several doctors said it was a swollen gland, but it grew until it was bothering me. I was sent to an ENT who did a CT , found out it was a parotid tumor, and took it out. No problems, and barely a scar.

I am surprised he did not try to asperate it or do a biopsy.

Hard lumps do not have to be cancer. They can be infection. It can happen with tonsilitis or any infection where it is in your lymph nodes. The ones at the neck can swell anytime.

Have you seen two or three doctors before getting this scan?
Sometimes doctors who are into money request the scan first because it is very expensive. It should be there last resort after check other things. Too many doctors are not requesting scans too fast, like routine. This scan besides being expensive is a huge x-ray and as you know everytime you take an x-ray you get radiation. You dont want too much radiation as over time it can cause cancer.

Always get more opinions, even if he is your doctor for years. Just tell him you are getting a second opinion. If either doctor tells you it could be this or that, then get a third. It is worth it in the long run.
Dont worry too much. But please have it checked out.

No,not to worry .I had that too. It's the wisdom tooth or a cavity which is infected can enlarge the nodules. My guess go take an x-ray of your jaws.I had an impacted tooth and got it removed surgically, lasted for 2hrs, it's not the best thing but now I am fine.
It could also be an ear infection, throat infection, basically ENT(ear nose and throat) If it's not painful just ignore it.Nothing will happen.

No, it is probably a lymph node. I have had them before, and they go away. You are smart to have seen a doc about it, just to be sure, but in the meantime, don't worry at all. I've learned that worrying about things when you haven't been told that anything is wrong with you is just a waste of energy, because most likely of all it will turn out to be nothing. Just relax, and go on with your life.

No. This is not the time to be worried. It could be an inflamed or swollen lynph node. Wait until you get results.

Instead of facing the test with fear, try changing your thinking. You live in a place and have teh resources to get this test that can save your life. How wonderful is that?
