what do you prefer, gloss, eggshell or satinwood, as a painter i prefer satinwood, its in between gloss and eggshell finish, and dosent dull as quick as eggshell and not to shiny like gloss.

satin is nice in new construction with new smooth walls, however, flat paint is best for older walls that may have some blemishes, it masks them. eggshell paint should never be used because you can never touch it up. flat paint has that nice cozy feel to it also.

I prefer satinwood for wood but matt emulsion for ceilings and walls. I don't like shiny finishes because they remind me of 'chip shop walls'.

There are so many things to do with any surface.

I'd recommend a boot called "Paint Magic" by Jaccosta Innes". She discusses everything from new walls and floors to the anciet stuff in tenement dumps.

You can probably get it on Amazon.com used. It's really a great book to have, and I've used it many times to great effect.

On bumpy plaster matt. On flat walls satin or eggshell.

I agree with you, I used to work in a paint factory a long time ago, Ive always preferred satin finishes in anything, I even have all my photos printed in satin finish
