They pulled it out of their ***, and while few people outside the US believe this, a lot of those inside do, and what's more, those inside are so self-inflated they don't care that the rest of the world knows they're fat, lazy, self-superior American idiots. So they go around calling themselves that in much the way Bush goes around calling himself the next Messiah - only fools believe it, but there's a LOT of fools out there.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!
And I AM American, so... none of that "U RACIST" crap, kthnx.

I have never heard the US referred to as the chosen nation.
I did read some texts that mentioned a prophecy whereby a nation would rise up out of the sea (biblical symbol for a crowd of people) and the symbol of that country would be a great, shaggy beast with short curved horns (think american bison). And that country would grow exceedingly strong and all the world would wonder after it.
The US may not be admired now as it was in the 1950's after playing a major role in settling two horrible world wars. But back then most of the countries of the world wondered how a nation so new and young at its roots could do so much in so many parts of the world in so short a time.
That tells me that whether it was a chosen nation or not, God predicted the rise and rapid increase in prosperity of the US.....

a sturdy question yet bear in mind this, GOD did no longer DOES those issues. human beings DO undesirable issues no longer GOD. God did no longer enable the Assyrians to triumph over the Jews they only conquered all of them on their very own. God did no longer kill the Jews interior the Holocaust, Hitler did. God supplies us unfastened decision and regrettably some human beings make very very undesirable possibilities and kill many human beings. yet human beings make those possibilities no longer God. human beings do undesirable issues to human beings, no longer GOD!!!!!! Im no longer Jewish, im Christian yet i've got self belief that a number of them would be attentive to how i've got self belief. And by the way the Greeks on no account conquered the Jews and the Egyptians on no account fairly conquered them. The Jews went their for artwork and slowly have been became right into a slave stress.

I think the last "Chosen" nation was Israel, Jesus Christ took care of that when he came 2000 years ago and made God available to everybody and all Nations.
I think you've got it mixed up with the "Fast Food Nation" with by the waist size of the average American is an appropriate title.

By listening to televangelists, and liars, and the tellers of half-truths and false teachings.
Israel is still God's "Chosen People."

Considering that the USA is, historically, a rather recent occurrence, one wonders what took God so long to make a choice.

The same way Osama Bin Laden appointed himself the arbiter of humanity to call other people infidels for not worshipping the same invisible man in the sky as him.

I've never heard this actually said out loud. Though it does seem to be the views of many based on political actions taken.
