Well intimacy can mean a number of things.
Talking to someone and getting to know them is one way.
Sex isn't intimacy making love is. There is a difference.
Sex is just going through the motion with no feelings attached.
Love making is when you feel something strong for that person.
does this help you
cuddling is a form of intimacy. flirting is another, but be careful with that.

True intimacy is getting to know someone, or letting them get to know you, as well as you know yourself. It means that you allow yourself to be vulnerable. Sex, you can have with anybody; it doesn't mean you're intimate. Animals have sex. Intimacy is reserved for those who truly deserve it. Closest way I can describe it to you is to ask, Did you ever see the movie "Pretty Woman?" She was a prostitute. She would have sex, but no one was allowed to kiss her on the lips. Because kissing was intimate, and no amount of money could buy that, even though she was a prostitute. That was the part of her that was sacred, vulnerable, and reserved for someone special. Because in being vulnerable, being intimate, it leaves you wide open to hurt and pain if you are intimate with the wrong person. But in the end, the two become intimate. And that's what true intimacy is, knowing you can trust a person with all your heart; that what you share is sacred, safe and secure. That it is a valued gift from one heart to another, whether it's your words, your secrets, your emotions, or the gift of your body.

Most people seem to define intimacy as two people engaged in hot and passionate sex .....this seems to be the first image that comes to their minds.
However, there is a strong argument to be made that intimacy is much less physical and has more to do with the MIND, heart, and soul of those who enjoy sharing it together. In fact, I am personally convinced that the beautiful experience of physical connection between two people is really the culmination of all that is intimate between them. It includes how they relate outside of the bedroom as much as what they do inside of it.
