I dont know him/her/it, except for what my brain can comprehend. I have some family members that I dont even love. So how does God expect us to believe, worship and love, if we dont know him?

He expects yoy to TRY. Your intent is more important than your actual capacity to love God. God reads your HEART, and He doesn't grade on a curve. Everyone is unique in the eyes of God, and you will be judged accordingly.

If the God of the Bible (or the Quran, for that matter) exists, I'd be in a lot of trouble. I could never love such a sadistic, vain being. Furthermore, only a sado-masochist could love such a god.

'Love' is a very natural inherent condition for yourself. You don't need God, but a belief in God can help for those so inclined.

For others, it is best to at least start with solid moral beliefs otherwise your actions will be clouding this inherent 'love'.

The next thing is to meditate otherwise your mind will think about meaningless things and this will also cloud it.

Finally, with all of this working together you develop true love and wisdom.

You cannot. One cannot force oneself to 'want' or 'love' things.

You decided to believe in a God, i assume.. which is not quite the same as believing in books or words written in slabs of stone.

I believe It's the only ones that know God exists and don't trust him that are in trouble.

the way i believe in God is that we are part of him/her ... that we have God within us as well as without us
so loving ourself is very important and in doing so we must also love that God part in us ... it goes hand in hand for me
it isnt a love of God as a seperate being , but a love of me as a whole

But you have every opportunity to know him and chose not too, you can know him through the bible, church or other Christians if you choose. To answer your question, in my opinion, no it is not OK to not love God.

You can do as you please, each of us can make that choice. You need to be ok with the choice you made. I am a Christian and even though you are an athiest I think you have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. :-)

In a sense you may be right. You need to get to know Him first. Why don't you try that?
