Are you using a crate? If not, it's a good idea to get one. When you can't watch him, crate him. Look up crate training online. Proper training it KEY to him liking his crate not hating it!
Fist off, if the puppy isn't on a meal schedule, put him on one. Feeding three times a day is the best. about 15 to 30 mins after he eats, take him outside. Give him a treat when he goes outside. When you are inside, DON't let him out of your sight. If he starts to have an accident in the house, interupt him with a loud noise, rush him outside to finish his buisness. Don't punish him for accidents. Take him out when he even looks like he's thinking about going to the bathroom. the best way to house break a dog is to not let him have accidents in the house. When he does have an accident, use and pet cleaner with enzymes in it. YOu need to get the smell all the way out so he doesn't think he has made a spot to go in the house.

I used this method with both of my dogs. you are at an advantage b/c your's is still a puppy, both of my dogs were adults and had never been trained b4. If it worked for them, it should work on a puppy!

Good Luck!

I have a 1 year old boxer now, and I crated trained her right away. It works for house breaking, the key is to let him like the crate, give him treats in the crate and keep the crate in an area where he can still have some type of social interaction. Remember though he needs to get used to it, don't stick him in the crate for hours on end at the very begining. Start off with just feeding your dog in the crate, then put him in it for 10 mins, then 15 mins, ect... till he gets used to it and eventually he will think its his own den of R&R. Never ever use the crate as punishment. Sometimes when I got mad at my boxer she would run to the crate and once she was in it I left her alone.

The puppy needs to stick to a feeding schedule best as possible. and let him out 30 mins after meals and praise him when he does go outside.

I used the clicker to train my dog to do tricks. It's great because it uses positive reinforcement. The very first time I used the clicker I would just click and give a treat, did that a few times. Then I would give her a command. Right after she did what I asked click, treat.

If they don't understand the command then show them what you want, then click, treat. Eventually you will be able to use the clicker without giving your dog a treat.
