A Baptist preacher and his wife and family moved in next door to me, and I promptly began "spying" on them from my kitchen window at every opportunity when I heard about the BibleThumpers that moved in next door. After exchanging nothing more than pleasantries with them for a couple of years (but watching them like a hawk), I came to the conclusion that they were the real McCoy, and started asking questions. After many heated debates and arguments, I felt conviction of the Holy Spirit that I was hearing the truth for the first time in my life, whether I liked it or not, and I decided to take God's side against myself, and got saved! I've never regretted it, and I've NEVER been the SAME!

Interesting question.
I think my first steps down my path were actually through a book of Norse mythology that I picked up, because I'm half Norwegian by heritage (albeit like four generations removed). It offered me a different way of looking at things. I started following more of a nature-centric path, and eventually ran into a group of people who practiced a form of Wicca with a heavy Kemetic influence. That got me researching the Egyptian pantheon, and my own spirituality. I eventually moved on from that group and am now a solitary Pagan, with strong Wiccan influence, who is drawn to the Greek pantheon.

Actually it was not a person, per se that 'spoke' to my heart. It was a book put out by Jehovah's Witnesses called Making Your Family Life Happy, and I found it laying on a friends coffee table and asked to borrow it. I read it all in one night, and asked my friend who published the book, as I felt that whoever did had it right. He explained, I called a local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and the rest is history! :) I BELIEVE more every day in Jehovah, His love, His son Jesus, and Satan and his demons who try to dissuade me from my love for Jehovah because I LEARN something every single day about God.

I was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and so learned my beliefs from studying the bible, attending meetings and from my family. But there comes a time when you need to decide what way you are going to go with your life and this happened for me when I was about 22. I was married and pregnant and decided that if myself and my child were to have a real future as God's servants then I needed to get my life in order. So with study and prayer I reached a decision that I should get baptised and dedicate my life to God and to doing his will.
It was my personal choice based on the validity of my belief in the bible and God Jehovah.

I was persuaded to believe in the One True God, by a Pentecostal lady. She kept going to my house asking me how I was doing, her husband was a friend of my then husband. This lady invited me to her church, and I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I was baptized and all those years as a Catholic were wiped away, I was given a new vision in life based on Biblical principles. I did not stay in the Pentecostal church, however, I attend a non- denominational church.

The reason that I have accepted religion and being Jewish is because of my father. I didn't meet him until I was 4, when I came to America. One of the first things he did was take me to temple and have me named. After that, he sat with me at a Kosher Deli in the middle of Crown Heights and explained to me about god and Judaism. After he died, it became more important for me to believe in god so that I knew he was safe, and he was being taken care of, otherwise, I might not stick with religion through my "teenage" years, but I know that I have to for his sake.

When I was a bliever, my grandma always talked to me about "god". I believed her, it seemed to answer my question of why we're here ad who made this planet. I was only a kid, I thought it was the only answer, I didn't have time to sit there and think about "well what about...." "well maybe......" "but how can we......" etc.
It would be scary for me to think that there's nothing out there looking over us, that we're just here and no one knows how this planet was made and the reason we exist. But now that I know it's not god, it seems more right.
