I just bought it fresh from the market so its not frozen or anything, just cold from sitting on ice.

I personally would never cook fresh salmon in the oven--It is too delicate. Salmon needs very little preparation--just be sure its
FRESH or it will make you sick.
Using a heavy skillet, I'd us a a high heat oil like canola or peanut. We're talking STEAK here right? Sear one side/
turn over and sear the other. Pick out some unique spices like Cajun/paprika/even lemon pepper goes well. Put a tablespoon
over the steak when almost finished. Finished means when
fish flakes easily. This is the last thing you cook before
eating-not the first. It goes out of the skillet and onto the plate.
Preferably a heated plate.

Ten minutes per inch of thickness. Check to see that the flesh is opaque and flaky.
