I have a sony vaio that until recent times worked like a charm. The computer is about 4 yrs old and has been used alot. One day i turned it on and it just froze at the windows loading screen. What could this be. If the is the operating system how could this be fixed.

Restore to last known working configuration === turn on computer and start tapping the F8 key. You will get a prompt. Select this option.

If that dont work, do the same thing, but go into safe mode as administrator. From there, its a whole new troubleshooting process. Disable all your startups in MSCONFIG and try again.

When it appears to freeze if you hear a clicking noise then the hard drive has crashed. Usually when this happens it's because of a bad power supply. If you replace the drive I would advise getting a new power supply as well.

if you are using WindowsXP - try doing a System Restore
click - start - all programs - accessories - system tools - system restore
make sure you restore to a date you know the computer worked good
and make sure you make a back up copy of your files cause you may lose some files doing the restore

put it in the aoven at 375 degrees F
no more than 20 minutes, that should thaw it out

it's your hard drive.it's probaly corrupt.
you can try a low level format but you have to reinstall the o/s.

ctrl, alt, delete. it will say end task at the bottem and click it.
