My sister has headlice. We just found out a few days ago. She had it when she was little and it took a year to get rid of it. We even washed her hair in kerosene when she was little. We tried everything. After a year, they were finally gone. It was bad then. She had eggs and bugs. This time she's only got the eggs. It's not that bad right now. I'm just wandering, does anyone out there no of anything that will cure it without using any harmful chemicals? You don't even have to be 100% sure it works. We're willing to try anything. So have you heard any myths that will supposabley kill them? If so, lets here it. I don't care how crazy it sounds, but please, don't make anything up. I'm asking nicely, please take this seriously. We're desparate to get this gone! Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions.

Use mayo. My sisters got it a lot when they were younger and I know it works. Just apply mayo to the whole head and cover it with a cap or plastic bag. Leave it on for 30 mins to 1 hour. It conditions the hair and kills the bugs at the same time. Just be sure to use shampoo after your done or you'll be walking around smelling like may for a while.

I am an elementary school teacher. Last year I had them for three or four months. It was awful and I can certainly relate to your sisters frustration. I tried the over-the-counter remidies. They would kill the bugs but not the eggs. So my mom would treat me again the next weekend. This went on for months. Then in desperation I ordered some lice shampoo off the net. I had to go through two cycles with it, but that was the only thing that worked. The shampoo was chemical loaded.

during my desperate search for a way to get rid of the lice I also went to my dr. She gave me a rx, but by the time it was filled the shampoo had killed everything. The dr. did say that even the rx had chemicals in it.

Can't locate the site where they sold the lice shampoo. Good luck

First, not all chemicals are harmful. Everything but the rocks we walk on is made from "chemicals"; they are the building blocks of life as we know it.

The stuff you find in "RID" is actually a natural compound. It is made from ragweed. Yup, that's correct, there is actually a use for ragweed, other than to make you sneeze and be miserable all summer! Use "RID", or some related lice-treatment shampoo, on her hair. Treat also ANY PETS in the house, and wash all of the bedding. To really kill the bugs, the washed items must go through the dryer.

Couches, mattresses, chairs, and floors should be treated also. They must be sprayed with a killing compound, OR left exposed to killing (ie freezing cold) temperatures for 3 days. Lice are a parasite. They must have a warm body to stay warm and feed.

If RID or NIX doesn't get rid of the lice, or is your sister is allergic to it, you can always coat the hair with Crisco (or a similiar hard fat). Leave it on for an hour, then comb through with a nit comb. Wash well.

Having lice doesn't mean you are dirty, btw. Lice prefer clean hair to dirty every time.

Good luck!

saturate her hair (all of it, every single stand) with a cheap bottle of conditioner and leave it on for about an hour. it suffocates the lice and also makes the eggs easy to remove. For a preventative measure dilute some tea-tree or citronella oil into a spay bottle with water and spray over the hair daily. Also i saw in Woolworth's the other day hair bands that actually contain citronella as a deterrent for lice!!

If you call your Doctors office ask them to call you in some Quell or Kwell cant remember the spelling but it will get rid of them and it isn't harmful like the stuff you buy over the counter. Using the stuff over the counter gets expensive and they keep coming back. My sister is a RN and I promise it works and isn't harmful to your Child

Well what i would do first is go to Walgreen's and get this kit called Lice is a shampoo and very small tooth comb, you wash the hair with it and then comb the lice out. or you can cut the hair of course (smile).

try olive oil and egg whites..... if any eggs have hatched it'll suffocate the lice and it moisturises your scalp, it also loosens the type of 'glue' that sticks the nits (eggs) to the hair. It worked for me!
