It is just a matter of degree of spacey. "Another world" has a hint of imagination or inventiveness to it, such as an artist or musician is in another world when he is at his art. Another planet suggest mental instability or possibly dillusional living. It could also suggest totally out of touch; without a clue; out to lunch; the lights are on but no one's home, &c. Most of the artists I know are definitely in another world, and it is a world which is fun to discover when they share it. However, when someone is living on another planet, I am not even inclined to send up a rocket with supplies, if you get my meaning. I am far more inclined to make a phone call. Another planet has a hint of psychiatric help to it. - Chris.

I think there is a difference. She/he lives in another world would mean that their lifestyle is completely different to someone else eg. affluent, huge house in Chelsea, swimming pool, cruises etc versus someone who's unemployed, up to the eyeballs in debt, living in a bedsit in Bermonsey. She/he lives on another planet would refer to someone who's a bit dizzy and lives in a dreamworld!

when you say "in another planet" it's like saying that she lives "inside of the planet" like it's an indor cubicle, like inside of an area.
And then saying "on another planet" is like she "actually lives, lives" on that planet. saying "in" is like describing the action that takes places in a specific location. uhmm...
it's like saying for example: "my friend lives in jupiter."
does that sound right to you??? NAH!
how about: "my friend lives on jupiter!"
better, no? exactly.
right: my friend lives on planet earth.
wrong: my friend live in planet earth.
I hope this helped you...I tried! hahaha
