Wellbutrin or Wellbutrin XL works fine for many, and not for others. I do believe perhaps being on Zoloft or another for years first may have something to do with it. Some people report bad experiences however; it could be that they hadn't been on another med prior to its use. Doctors can also prescribe Wellbutrin in addition to another medicine such as Zoloft. Zoloft could be more used to calm down the emotions more such as crying a lot etc., and the Wellbutrin to give you the motivation to do something while not so down. Everybody really has to do a trial and error to figure out what works best for them. For others Paxil or others might have worse side effects for them. I believe there are about 3 different types of these antidepressants with differing main ingredients, so some people do better with a drug from one of the families of drugs, while others do better with another. I don't think you can really go on somebody else's experiences, as you'll find extremes either way probably for every medicine. If it was a new drug not used much lately, then I'd think extreme responses to your question would be more worrisome. Trying anything is better than nothing, and you can always switch after the appropriate amount of time. I agree with the other response about your age, if you are younger perhaps trying another would be better given the potential for higher suicide risks. Your doctor will probably ask to see you in two weeks to check on your progress; call their office if your worried about effects before then. Good look and remember you're not alone!

Awesome, it's changed my life. Effexor didn't do anything for me, but Wellbutrin rocks!

My only symptom of depression was extreme fatigue, had it all my life, I could sleep 20 hours a day, but with Wellbutrin I have a new love of life. I now exercise almost every day, I volunteer, I rarely take naps, and I haven't skipped a single day of my university classes (I used to skip A LOT just to stay home in bed). Hasn't made me loopy, no side effects really, sex drive is still good (I'm married, so it's important), and I haven't gained any weight... I've actually lost 15 lbs because of it.

Wellbutrin's the best thing that's ever happened to me.... the only bad thing about it is I wish I'd been on it sooner!

Good luck!!!

Its a good med for depression, it has the ability to energize you somewhat, so if you are suffering from fatigue or lack of motivation, it works good for that. Be prepared to ride out any side effects, for me, the side effect was a feeling of irritation and anger.
I feel that it is not quite as effective on feelings of sadness or loss of hope, that's why I also take Zoloft. The Zoloft keeps me from falling into the depths of dispair, but it makes me sleepy. The two together work quite well. Remember, it takes 2-3 weeks to get over the side effects and for the therapeutic effect to kick in. Most people tolerate Wellbutrin quite well. Good luck. If it isn't for you, there may be another medication that works wonders, every body responds a little differently.

I took wellbutrin for years. If only I had known then that there are natural herbs that can cure depression much faster and without any side effects. I have my own story with wellbutrin but if you truly want to help yourself you should look for alternatives which are safer and better than drugs that doctors make u take for 6months+

You don't say how old your are. If you are a teenager or early twenties, I suggest you ask your doctor for a different medication. It has been found to cause suicidal behavior in teenagers. If you are older, that will not be an issue for you. I was 27 when I took it. I didn't have a very good reaction to it. It caused trouble sleeping and some rather odd behavior. (I was banging my head against the wall) I have known other people who have been taking it for years and it works well for them.

I sold anti-depressants for years and Wellbutrin is one of the best and it has the least amount of side effects. If you have to have an anti-depressant only take it for a short time or try cognitive therapy which works as well as the antidepressants in most cases.

It didn't work well for me at all. You may do well on it. Give it a few weeks and see.
