It's important always. Everyone should also remember that's it's as much freedom OF as it is freedom FROM religion.

Definitely, if not moreso now.
Back when the Framers wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, most people belonged to various denominations of Christianity. Now, the population of America isn't just Christian, but, well, more religions and sects than I could possibly name.
Then, they were trying to prevent denominational arguements and one form of Christianity from dominating others, from being forced to be Catholic when one was Protestant.
Now, not only are we trying to prevent that, but we're also trying to prevent forcing people to be converted to Christianity if they're Muslim, Jewish, or anything else, including atheist. Yes, atheists don't believe God or any other deity exists, so it's not a religion, but, it's still something atheists have a right to.
Considering that this world is far more pluralistic and diverse than it was in the days of the Founding Fathers, this protection is far more precious than it ever was.

Yes. Freedom of religion and freedom from religion are vitally important and go hand in hand to ensure equal rights for everyone, regardless of religious belief or lack thereof.

I think it's just as important today as in the past because there is always the threat of the group with bigger numbers taking over and becoming intolerant and possibly even violent toward anyone who isn't like them.

I think it is even more important today than it ever was. There are more people today that defy God, and thumb their nose at Him than ever. A lot of people hate religion and want it abolished, and more specifically Christianity. They want it gone so they don't have to live up to any kind of moral standard. They don't want to be held accountable.

Even more so as we near the end of time. The more we can put off the Sunday law the more time we have to get ready for the second coming of Christ.
