From another weight conscience guru, I applaud you for staying physical this time of year! It is one of the most difficult...
Two days a week is an excellent start and four days a week is even better. However, fourty minutes is a lot for someone who is just starting to walk two days a week. I would suggest walking 20 minutes and increasing it 5-10 minutes per week or two weeks. (Spreading it out over more days is far more beneficial than doing it all at once!)
Also, do something physical every day. (Even something as small as walking from the back of the parking lot as opposed to a close up spot is beneficial...trust me!)
A reason you may not be losing weight is you are simply not eating enough. Make sure you are eating 5 to 6 small meals a day (I cannot stress that enough) and make sure never to skip breakfast...That is what gets your metabollism burning afterall!
I'm not sure what kind of a diet you are doing but I will also make a suggestion there.
You and I both know this time of year is increasingly difficult, especially for those who are trying to shed pounds.
We are constantly bombarded with cookies, Aunt Ida's cheesecake, Grandma's lemon merigue pie, and the cholesterol filled double baked homemade mashed potatoes (Don't mind me..I'm dreaming here...: )
Whenever possible, try to eat more complex carbs, and refrain from sugars. Whole wheat pasta's, fresh vegetables, and protein are always good choices. Drink A LOT of water.
Best of luck to you..and stay strong! You will succeed in the long run...

That's probably a bad idea? There is no magical pill, and once everyone realizes that they'll see theres only one way really and it's not hard at all. Why do you think they sell pills like that? Lol, to make money ?? Because if there really was a pill like that..everyone EVERYONE would know about it by now. You should love your body no matter what! I might not sound that convincing but thats the most important thing..I exercise 2 hours a day. And that may seem like a lot but it's not at all.. I spend 30 minutes on a treadmill and then the rest of the time is working my whole body seperately, my legs, back, arms (dont like doing that=P) and anything else you can think of..but I only spend a few minutes on each machine. And eating healthy of course..it may not be easy sometimes..but you'll feel a lot better. And also when you exercise your periods aren't that bad (If your a woman) Heh..which is a good thing am I right? Trust me..once you see the weight come off it'll just motivate you even more, the people that don't give up loose the weight eventually. I think you can do it! I certainly hope I helped a little bit. Be Safe.

Well let me first clear up a few things so we can get to the bottom of this.
First of all fat does not turn into muscle. Fat and Muscle are two different things completely. Building muscle is pretty hard and I doubt you will get much muscle gain from just walking. Building muscle requires that you lift weights which tears the muscle tissue and when they rebuild your muscle grows and becomes larger.
I would bet that you are simply eating too many calories. The fact is, if you eat less callories than your body needs you will loose weight and if you eat more than your body needs you will gain weight. Walking 2 days a week is not much and if you dont adjust your eating habbits you will continue to gain fat. Unless of course you are doing alot of resistance training, then the weight you gain will more likely be muscle.
I recommend that you use my diet calorie calculator so you can figure out exactly how many calories you should be eating each day for maximum fat loss.
Also keep in mind that your should be eating 5 times per a day, just make your meals smaller. This will increase your metabolic rate.
Hope that helps,
Adam Beazley

You always gain weight the first few weeks that you start to exercise. They say never ever look at a scale until the second month after starting an exercise regiment. this is because exercise causes you to hold excess water and so you gain water weight. This will go away in a few months. In the meantime..continue to walk and try to count the calories you are eating and cut back by 500...also spread your meals into 5 small meals about 3 hours apart rather than 3 big meals. Dont worry about the weight gain...it's normal. Just keep it up and it will take you down (weight) in no time. Congrats on your lifestyle change!

It could still be muscle but have you been eating right before you go to bed because if you do that then you can gain alot of weight because the energy from that food can turn right into fat

Are you eating at the right times of the day you must have 3 meals a day .Missing breakfast does not do you any good.
If you miss your meals your body will put weight on even if you are eating healthy

When you work out your fat turns into muscle and that 's good. I went from 179 to 125 and took that weight off and by walking it all turned into muscle.

it could be that your muscle is toning up thus turning into pounds, don't worry, you have just started you will soon "see" the benefits of your walks, although fat is turning to muscle you will also feel a whole lot healthier and you will feel the benefits.
and within a few weeks your waistband will see the benefits also, good luck and well done for getting up and going for it ! :oD
