When installing a suspension lift on a wrangler some recommend installing a slip yoke eliminator kit. This does away with the slip on driveshaft to transfer. It helps decrease pinion angle and will ultimately be a stronger setup for the lift. As for whether you're compromising I say NO. My brother in law and I have 97 wranglers with suspension lifts and stock slip yokes. We do lots of offroading without any issues. You'll be just fine with just a 3" lift..

no they do not they have U joints. The popping noise could be a tire rubbing but it may also have a U joint failing. You can check this my grabbing the joint and trying to turn it, if you feel a lot of play it may be the joint. you should have 1 per side ( or tire) located right behind the brake assembly. The noise may also be the fact that your jeep may be all wheel drive and the front wheels are trying to pull you around the corner. This is a common thing when driving on dry pavement because the wheels are grabbing instead of sliding/spinning as it turns. It will also do it more the sharper you turn. Hope this helps you out.
