SPanish painter that was deeply impacted by civil war and other spanish wars at the time. Most of his paintings deal with things he saw and experienced during the war.
He used mostly oils in an almost expressionist form which was very different from other spanish painters at the time.
One of his most famous paintings, the Parasol, is actually one of his lighter periods.

Check out this site. Doesn't look like expressionless war paintings to me. But I can see that his desperation was evident in many of his works. ex. Dog on the leash.
No offense to earlier posters.
