To remove from the "startup" menu, hover your mouse over it and right-click. Select delete. It is gone from your startup and will not launch when you restart windows.
Others have answered this correctly, but it seems like some people gave them a thumbs down - which should be thumbs up.
This does not remove the program from your computer - only from automatically starting each time you startup your computer.
Now, if you are talking about from the "Start" menu (different place than your question asked), there are two things you have to do. First, open your "Add/Remove Programs" in your "Control panel". Find the program you want to get rid of and click the "Remove" button. Second, When you do this, the start menu item is not always removed. Here you have to right-click on the program item and select delete - just like I explained in the first part of my answer.

There is a startup folder and a start menu. To remove programs from either just right click on them and select delete. Don't forget that almost everything in the start menu is a shortcut, not the actual program. If you are referring to programs on the left list on the start menu just right click and select remove from this list.

I have windows XP and all you do is go to start, control panel and click on add/remove programs.A list of all programs will pop up and you can choose which ones you want to delete.
Make sure you delete the short cuts too.
To do this,[delete shortcuts from desktop]right click on the ones[one at a time] you want to delete from your desktop and when the box opens showing you all the options, click on "delete shortcut".If this doesn't work,go to the wizard and he will help you do this..But it works for me...Gotta love that wizard!

.
To remove the program from the START UP menu,
(and NOT from you computer)
1. RIGHT click START > left click EXPLORE
2. In the Explore left panel, scroll down to Programs > Start Up
3. Double click the Start Up folder and
RIGHT click any program you don't want to
have start automatically > select DELELTE
If you only go to START > Programs > StartUp
you will only be deleting the "Shortcut".

Go to "Start", "Programs", Startup, and double click on it.
It'll open a window with all the programs "scheduled" to open when windows starts. Just delete the ones you don't want there..
