All of the above or just fire crackers. Also study has shown that bears will learn over time. Scientists put vomiting pills in fish in a bear infested area and did so for 5 nights in a row and bears kept clear of that trash can or was it the fish that they kept away from, Anyway do so at your own risk. They might come in to your house to find some food

the trash cans should be hanging from a chain (so that they cant knock them over )and covered with a good lid .like they do in National parks.
but the best solution ,which is also the correct one ,is never to mix food or left over food with the trash.
Organic waste is responsible for 70 % of contamination,
Always keep organic seperate ,put it on a small compost heap (vegetable waste )or leave it out for the dogs, pigs, cats and why not the bears .
they are beautifull animals ,very strong ,better to have one as friend instead of a burgler

try and make sure all your trash is tightly closed if you can afford it they sell huge bins that you can put your trash can in and lock them up they hold 2- 30gal trash cans. keep the area around the trash cans clean. bears are very determined so what every you do make sure it is secure tightly. good luck
