I'm worried that I dodn't give enough to the hairstylisy that I went to. I had a haircut and colour..and then I bought one of their products for $18. My total bill was $80+ (in canadian dollars). I gave $10 as a tip..Is that enough?

It sounds like a fair tip. The tip should be based on the cost of the haircut and colour job, quality of work, how fast the job was completed to your satisfaction.

The fact that you purchased a product from the salon is nice but should not be considered in when deciding how much to tip.

Just for your information the word tip means "To Insure Prompt Service." Like everyone says, 15% to 20% is good. Very good.

PS: Your age has a lot to do with it too! You are not expected to tip as much as a person who is older that makes good money. You can only tip what you can afford. Like some say, $2 or 5% or 10% certainly can be an accepted tip. Don't feel bothered. YOU spent a lot of money in that store. I'm sure they appreciated your business.

The problem with being a consumer is someone is always trying to make us feel like we need to buy something or pay more or we don't measure up if we don't do this or do that. Don't fall into that BS. Hold on to your money and spend it wisely. That is what is important for you.

You did just fine. You must have been happy. You don't have to tip including the products - they make a commission on those too anyway. As a rule of thumb, 10% tip for a satisfactory job. 15-20% for an excellent job. So if yours was $62.00 - 10% was $6.20, whereas 15% was $9.30. You hit it pretty good more on the very happy customer (more like 20%+). I used to be a hairdresser and haircuts for $15.00 would get me an average of $2.00 per customer and $5.00 for regular clients who came to me all the time. On products we would make at least 10% commission, and if there were promotions going on, more after that.

I think you tipped rather well, actually, especially since you bought product. Definitely don't tip on the product! So you tipped around 15%, so I think you did great!! Honestly, I'm sometimes a bit miffed about having to tip on TOP of an expensive haircut ..... but as long as you're happy!!

I think an amount of a tip can depend on how well your hair turned out and how nice the stylist was. I usually give $5 tips so $10 isn't bad!

Technically you are supposed to tip 10-15%, $10 is equal to 12.5% so yes it was technically perfect.

However I believe that you should tip whatever you are comfortable with or able to tip. A tip is just that - a tip. It is not mandatory is only based on what you want to give.

My stylist owns her own biz/chair. She charges quite a bit. She makes about $100/hr the way I figure it. I leave her a "tip" of $10 each time. I'm a poor student (not working), so that's just the way it is.

Of course that was plenty, what are you gonna do tip them for you buying some of the stuff they are selling?

Javy is one of those nerds that thinks the world owes him a living. I'd give him a punch in the face for a tip.
