I have to do a project for History class. I am an immigrant from Poland. Where is the nearest port city from Poland? How much would it have cost to get there back in the late 1800's? I really need help. Any of these questions answered would be GREAT.

I will be a passenger. I am a woman with 5 children. How much would that cost for a ship to Ellis Island?

Gdansk.
The cost would vary depending on where a person was coming from.
The cost of travelling on the ships would have varied also depending on the type of accomodation. Some people worked on the ships and then got off on arrival. Those with more money would go as passengers.
Your question is very wide, try to narrow your focus, it will make it easier to answer.
By the way, Joseph Conrad was a Polish sea captain who only learned English after he was forty, but he wrote some of the most skillful English prose that now exists. (Heart of Darkness, for instance).
