Strong antibiotics will help tack the infection, sometimes you need a different antibiotic or a longer course

The pressure can remain after the infection

To relieve the pressure, putting your head over a bowl of hot water (mind out, its hot) under a towel and inhaling steam can be very effective. A few drops of menthol in the water can help.

Sterimar, a salt water nasal spray squirted up the nostrils can help, available from pharmacist

Also, a vibrating massager applied to the temples, behind the ear, against the cheek bones works wonders for me. I'm using this after a bad sinus infection right now

Hope this helps, and overall, check with a doctor particularly if symptoms continue.

I too suffer from sinus infections and have found through the years that if there is any draft (ceiling fan, ect.) on my head, or my head is cold that I will ususally wake up with a sinus infection.

To avoid getting a sinus infection in the first place I find it helpful to sleep with my head covered. I ususlly use a stretch cap or hand towel but it is important to also slightly cover your nose so that when you breath in the air is warmed a bit. You can tell when the air temperature is appropriate because the typical slight stinging in your nostrils will lessen or stop.

The above method will help prevent and relieve the sinus infection symptoms and you will know when a head / nose cover is needed by the tingle in the nose and / or if you head feels cold or in a bit of a draft.

If you already have an infection get some vitamin C & zinc lozgens along with chewable acidolphus - use one C & zinc along with 2 acidolphus tablets at the same time - do not chew them but allow all three to disolve and bath the affected area as if one big lozenger. This can be done several times a day as needed but read the directions on the C & zinc for the daily limits.

All the best....

As you've tried loads of conventional things - please consider trying something alternative. Antibiotics & over the counter medicines are not any good - you've done that. As a homoeopath, I treat lots of people with this problem very successfully. The main problem is that they only come when they've tried everything else & it has failed - so they present as a chronic problem with badly infected, stagnant sinuses. It can take a bit of time & patience but the result is permanent & everyone is pleased. Contact The Society of Homeopaths to find a registered practitioner near you.

Doctors have always told me that salt water is the best for gargling and nasal douche. Salt in a glass of luke warm water (salty to the taste...not strong) and snort. You'll cough and splutter the first few times but it really does work. Morning and evening. Nasal sprays eventually have a reverse effect.

Put an icepack directly over the sinuses. Either the ones to the side of the nose or above and between the eyes, depending on which is effected. The cold will cause the inflammation to reduce.

You cannot get rid of a sinus infection by any of the methods you have used...you need an antibiotic. My advice is to contact the doctor right away and get the right antibiotic to treat your infection....letting it go may cause you a whole new set of problems that will end you in the hospital...don't wait any longer...good luck

You have to take the full dose of antibiotics, but also, get a saline nose spray and use it! Use it 3-5 times a day to clean out your sinuses. And please don't take benadryl like it's candy, if you have allergies and you develop an immunity to benadryl from over use, it can get expensive to get a stronger anti-histamine.

A doctor's visit, and antibiotics. Benedryl won't help unless you have allergies. Stay away from the nasal spray - it just has a rebound effect, and you'll end up stuffier than you started.

Well apart from the obvious which is go back to the doc, have a look round the house and a think about your lifestyle. For example, any new pets or dust sources?
