please explain the above. I have had pain on my left side l5-s1 since march of 06.

Signal change means the loss of some of the normal water content in the disc, i.e. degenerative. Wear and tear.
End plate signal change means the ends of the bones, vertabrae, has some inflammation as well. This all can cause back pain, but not leg pain that you might feel in your legs. Not dangerous.
