I think that a person joins the army to be trained to kill other people whilst under the pressure of gunfire. Unfortunately they can get injured. Do they deserve compensation for fighting in battles and getting injured?

The whole situation is rediculous.

It's like a school teacher complaining because she doesn't like kids.

This week the ministry of defence have said that if you join the army then you should expect to get shot at..it sounds right but if they get shot defending thier country then they should be compensated..any other job and you would so why not doing the most important job..if people in the wars of the last century decided to go into war with the attitude that if i get injured i'll get a fortune then i think we might all be blue eyed blondes and the planet would be called ..Germay

They should get compensated if they have to leave the army or are injured and unable to work, at the end of the day it is their job, but they are serving for their country, it's the least the government should do.

It is part of their job but it must be the worst part of their job. I've never met anyone that wants to be shot at. And yeah they do deserve compensation if injured. Just like a civilian does if they're genuinely injured at work (no whingers though).

Yes - in any battle it's a case of kill or be killed, so it's part of the job to do your best to avoid getting injured or killed. Of course they deserve to be compensated for injuries, but the MoD rarely pays out.

If the soldier is in the British Army & has had to borrow ammunition from the Americans/Canadians as it emerged in the news this week, then no;it's not their job to be shot at.They are supposed to be given the right "tools" to do their job & if they're not & they get injured then they should get as much compensation as their solicitor can get for them.

The training is supposed to help you stay calm under pressure,to kill without being killed or wounded if possible. In war,its a 50/50 chance of never being wounded or killed vs. getting killed or wounded.
Those who fight in combat get combat pay on top of their regular pay and they get some of the best medical treatment for free.

A soldiers job is to defend their country against attack which can entail killing the enemy soldiers during war. If a soldier is injured during their service to their country, they definately deserve to be compensated. In my opinion those who are willing to give up their life for the freedom we enjoy here in America are heros and should be treated as such.

I dont think that anybody that signs up of their own volition should be entitled to make a claim provided what they were doing at the time they sustained the injury (or worse) was within their remit. If they were conscripted, I think tht would be entirely different, but as we dont have conscription in the UK that is null and void.

They do get compensation. Its called Hazardous Duty pay. For every wound received, you get the Purple Heart and the recognition that goes with that. So it may seem that they're not getting anything, but they really are.
