An average adult female cat should weigh between 9 and 11 pounds, depending on the breed.
I have a calico, too, and my vet says 10 pounds would be perfect for her. We're working on it; she weighs a bit over 12 right now, but that's down from 16 1/2 pounds a year and a half ago!

Protein need to lose weight and to repair muscle after working out. When muscles repair themselves, they grow. But that depends on the type of exercise. Usually lifting heavy weights breaks muscles more. So, there is more growth during repairs. Add a healthy fat into your diet, too. Salmon, flax seeds, nuts, olive oil. There are many useful information about losing weight and building muscles here:

I have had several cats over the years and they weighed between 4.5 lbs (domestic longhair) to 18 lbs (male manx).

My vet determined that my cats were not over or under weight. One was genetically small-boned and petite and one is genetically large-boned and muscular.

We do have a cat with cancer that we are treating with steriods and she is definately fat at 14 lbs, but that is because of the medication she is on and the vet doesn't want her to lose weight.

I agree with the other posters - your vet is the correct person to tell you if your cat is over or under weight and how to deal with it.

It would depend on the breed of the cat. Some are very heavy without being over weight. Ask your vet if YOUR cat is overweight, he / she will let you know by feeling specific parts of the body for fat pads, rolls of fat, etc.

I'd ask the Vet. She does seem a little heavy, but that can depend on her height and length! If she is tall and long then she may not be all that much over weight at all.

I have a cat that weighs 22.5 pounds. The Vet says he is normal for his age, height and length. He is a 9 year old. He also is Polydactyl.

Your vet is the only one who can tell you if she's overweight and then advise you on how to help her loose some.

It depends on which breed she is, my male siamese is 16 pounds of solid muscle.
