I will be honest. I haven't shown the interest I should have in the war in Iraq, but I'm trying to learn more about it now. Here's my question: If we begin to steadily withdraw troops from Iraq, what will happen? What will happen once we have no troops in Iraq at all?

My parents think withdrawing would be a huge mistake, and I haven't done enough research to really have an opinion. I appreciate all opinions and answers! Thanks!

I guess I should add...My parents feel that as soon as we withdraw troops from Iraq that the US will be a direct target and the war will be brought here rather than stay over there.

The insertion of troops was a major mistake. The entire region under Islamic influence from Morocco to Indonesia is far less stable as a result. The U.S. is increasingly seen as dictatorial by increasing numbers of people around the world. Our economy has been vastly weakened. We do not have enough troops available should other emergencies develop. The Civil War, denied by the Bush administration but acknowledged as being fully underway by the rest of the world, deepens daily and leaves American troops there as sitting ducks. There can be no victory in Iraq. Just as the British learned after World War I, the Iraqis will not be conquered. There is too much value underground (oil) and too much division above-ground. The only result of continued occupation will be increasing governmental debt for the U.S. and more dead and injured American soldiers. Military contractors such as Halliburton are being enriched. The Bush administration has no idea of what they mean by "victory", nor does Tony Blair in England.

I believe we should pull the troops out. We are loosing too many soldiers/other service members everyday. We were suppose to go and hunt the people who brought down the Twin Towers, but yet we ended up in Iraq, and spend more time there, than in Afgahnistan. Our soldiers go over miss time with their families, birthdays, and whatever else happens. I think once or even if we pull the troops out, they might retalitate and come over here and cause problems with us, but we need to let them stand on their two feet with out the power of Saddam nor his people. I think if we take a small protion of troops out here and there, it will show the Iraqi Government that they need to stand up and take their postitions cause we can't always be 911 to all the other countries.

Withdrawl of troops in Iraq...hmmm. I think troops MUST withdraw in Iraq..why? Because if you don't withdraw, they are risking themselves for protecting a country that has no chance of bringing peace. Let's see Sunnis, Shiites will keep fighting with one another. Also, the more US tries to interrupt the situation to keep the peace in the country, the worse the case is going to become. The people of Iraq think we are their enemies. Let's get out.

If we " Cut &Run" from Iraq it will prove to the world what our enemies have been saying for years. The US will help defend you but the moment things start to get rough they will act like a little child & run home for safty. We RAN in Viet Nam , we Ran in Somila & now some want us to run again. Never mind the fact you will see a blood bath that will make Bosnia look like a picnic. When are we going to stand up & say " WE are america & we will keep our word to you" . So far no one has had the guts to do the right thing. I thought after 9/11 we had learned. but I guess I was wrong..

As in any military deployment once engaged its very hard to get out. An orderly withdrawal is one of the hardest things to do
, as the number of troops go down the ones remaining will be more vulnerable to attacks. But its all just a huge civil/religious war so matter when we leave theres gonna be some huge conflagration, several factions are all going to try and grab power at once and try to slaughter any opposition. Alls I know is that boot camp for our boys lasts about 8 to 10 weeks then they insert them into veteran units like an intern thing. Havent we been there for about 3 years now????? There should be waaaaaaaaaaay more progress with their boys.
LBJ said "I will not send in American boys to do the job that vietnamese boys should be doing"
Also Bush should tuck his tail between his legs and get International help. Unfortunately I dont think he can bring himself to do it

I think that is what we were doing before there was a spike in terrorism. I think that if we did that now, then terrorists would all grab a stranglehold on Iraq and fight for power until a new Saddam Heussain arose. Most people that say "bring 'em home now" haven't given much insight into it, but most people that say the opposite just want to argue, so research a nonbiased source and make your own decesion that way. But for now, I'd agree with your parents. Mine think the opposite.

McCain thinks that if we withdraw troops from Iraq it exhibits that we've failed. he's dedicated to keeping all of Bush's policies, no longer only in Iraq yet at abode. I certainly have some admire for McCain and if he substitute into working as an self reliant i could even vote for him. because it extremely is, nonetheless, he's no longer able (or no longer allowed) to criticize Bush or distance himself from Bush's policies. So he can grant us no longer something extra suitable than 4 extra years of all of the comparable failed policies. Bush is definitely out of innovations in Iraq. If he extremely had any thought of the thank you to alter issues, he could backpedal and attempt a clean technique. rather, all he does is insist that we are triumphing, that we are making progression, while it extremely is further and further obtrusive each and all of the time that we are actually not. the only new element he's tried substitute into the 'surge', which only meant elevating troop capability briefly to a level it were a pair of years in the past. And that needless to say did no longer paintings. It substitute into only a justification to maintain the conflict going a sprint longer. i myself think of the only technique the Bush administration has in Iraq is to maintain the conflict going until the Democrats take it out of their palms. Then for countless a protracted time afterwards they're going to say we've been triumphing in Iraq however the Democrats chosen to offer up. McCain is likewise dedicated to this technique. He has no new innovations to let us know approximately. Like Bush, he only insists that we are triumphing.

Withdrawal of the troops from Iraq can be a disaster, but replacing the U.S troops with the international peace keeping troops is much more prudent action.

I think we should tell Iraq they have a year to get their own government in order and then start gradually withdrawing our troops within that time frame.

Here is my take on the subject.
We need to stay, but we also need to push (force) the Iraq government and it's people to come up with a solution to their problem. OR, take matters into our own hands and force a solution of our own choosing.
We have freed the people of Iraq and they will either except it and live a better life or they won't. Unfortunately, if they choose to continue to live in uproar, as is their m.o., we will have to take matters into our own hands for the sake of our country and others.
Pulling out would leave us in worse shape than we were before 9-11.
Just my personal observation and assessment.
