We are having a going away party for a women that I have worked with for about 10 years. I bought her a really nice pair of gold leverback earrings with dangle cross charms on them. I have a pair and love them. So I thought she would to. But while I was having lunch with a friend today, she told me this lady is of the Morman faith. And that mormans do not believe in wearing crosses. I don't want to offend this lady, or give her a gift that she will not wear. I have searched the internet and can not find any thing about this subject. Can some one please tell me if this is true or not. Do Mormans not believe in wearing crosses?
Thank You

No Mormons do not believe in wearing crosses. Your friend is right. If this lady is a Mormon, even though the earrings are a very nice gift. She will not wear them. Mormons believe that Jesus bore the Cross for us. So we do not have to.

Hope this helps

Don't listen to the guy who said mormons where crosses-cuz it's SOOOO not true. Practically my whole family is mormon(almost) and it's definately true-don't give her crosses-it probably wont affend her, I mean, she wont freak out because you gave her a pair of crosses, but it's safer to not get them.
I'm mormon too, and well, I don't really go to church that much or act on the whole mormon religion(I have my own personal reasons why not to beleive in it) but I go for my grandma and I go because I have lots of friends there who I love, but I didn't get that when I was younger---I didn't know we couldn't wear them, and I found the most BEAUTIFUL necklace that was a cross~it was absolutely the prettiest thing I'd seen!!! So I bought it(like, $10 er something) and it came with pretty earings too and my grandma saw it and flipped out and I didn't get WHY. She explained it to me......
Mormons don't wear them because we don't celebrate his DEATH, we celebrate his LIFE. :)
Ok? I hope that helps!
peace out!!!

(man, I hope I get ten points for this! lol)

If she's Mormon/LDS she won't wear them. I would go along with what others have alluded to as far as not wearing crosses because of dwelling on the death or way he was killed. We have nothing against crosses or those that wear them or such but just not something we were raised to do or wear. It's a very thoughtful gift but something else might be considered :)

Thanks for asking. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormons). Yes, it is true that we do not usually use the cross as a symbol of our faith. While we certainly believe in Jesus Christ, we do not use the cross as a symbol on our church and usually not in jewelry. I think it's wonderful that you'd like to choose a gift that your friend would like to wear. I'm sure she will appreciate your kind thoughtfulness in whatever gift you give her.

Next time you decide to give a gift with religious significance, find out not only what their faith is, but whether they they object to wearing religious symbols in the first place. I am not Mormon, or Jewish or any of dozens of other faiths that would not wear one, but I do object to wearing a crucifix or the sign of the fish, or the Star of David or anything like that as an ornament, period. I feel that it trivializes my faith and I don't feel that my faith, whatever it is, should be shoved in anyone's face, especially as an fashion accessory.
Just my personal opinion.

I know there are generally no crosses in their stakes (religious meeting house) because they wish to focus on the resurrected Jesus, not the dying. I don't know about wearing crosses specifically, but I guess the same rule follows.

My Grandmother is mormon. Mormons do not believe in wearing crosses because to them wearing a cross is dwelling on Jesus's death and not focusing on his life.

I study in Utah and i am surrounded by mormons.. they don't wear cross pendants coz they think that they emphasize the dying part of Jesus' life. they don't even have crucifixes in their churches. they say they should concentrate more on the part where Jesus rose up from the dead and all that stuff..
If you give her that peice of Jewlery she might just say that she would wear it but beleive me, she won't.. get her something else

I am mormon. we do not believe in wearing crosses. we like to think more about his.. resurrection and not his death. the cross symbolizes the death of Christ.
