Your body only needs a certain amount of protein, roughly 60-80 gm (1.5 chicken breasts). If you eat more than that, about 40% is converted to carbs and the balance is excess calories.
Because of the carb conversion, this is why people who overeat protein when they begin weight lifting are disappointed in their results. Not only does protein not automatically build muscle, but the extra calories they're in as protein are turning to body fat.
Protein isn't dangerous in a healthy person. The confusion lies in that people who already have impaired kidney cannot eat much protein (too difficult to process).
Protein does not cause kidney damage on its own.
No one who does low carb plans like Atkins or Kimkins should be replacing carbs with protein. You merely omit processed carbs like bread, pasta, sugar, bread and potatoes. Your protein quantities shouldn't increase over what you would normally eat.
The Kimkins Diet stresses this and is one reason we have such awesome weight loss. Check out the new Success Stories on the website and see how quickly they lost. All stats included.

Depends if you are using it to replace carbs, as in the Aitkins diet. The body cannot cope so well using protein for energy and the by products of doing so can affect your kidneys.
