Cancer has been linked to smoking, however people who do not smoke or use tobacco also get cancer. None of us can guarantee that you will or will not get it, even if you had never smoked. However this is not something that you should spend any time worrying about, because, like it or not, we all eventually die. Smoking does cause a lot of health problems other than cancer, and it is a very good idea to quit now before you become addicted to it and cannot. If I could go back in time and never have started using tobacco, I would do so. If you cannot put your mind at ease about this, see a doctor and get a chest x-ray. Just try not to worry, because worrying causes health problems too.

It's good that you are thinking about it at such a young age. Unfortunately their second hand smoke in the house will cause more damage then the small amount you have inhaled. They say it takes 7 years for your lungs to clear up and function the way they did prior too. Cigarette smoking is a very expensive habit. All the money you spend buying cigarette's damaging your lung's will cost you three times that in doctor bills to get your lungs back to where it should be. The shorter the time you smoke the easier it is to quit. Stay healthy and put some of these doctors on lay-off.

I doubt if the short time you've been smoking has caused you any permanent health problems, but you have made a wise decision to quit. You indicate, however, that your family has smoked for years, so I assume you live in the same house with them. They say second-hand smoke is as harmful, or even more so, than smoking itself, although I am skeptical of that. You're certainly not going to get them to stop if they have been long-term smokers, but it might pay to invest in an air purifier to filter out the second-hand smoke. In the meantime, don't smoke any more yourself, and follow a healthful lifestyle -- good diet, exercise and drink lots of water. And don't worry about cancer. Smoking those few cigarettes should not have harmed you.

if you get cancer it will more than likely be from second hand smoke from your dad or other family members, i have been smoking for 7 years and believe me 25-30 cigarettes in you life time will not cause any damage because after you quit you body starts rejuvenating its self and after 24 hrs your body does not have any nicotine in it so don't worry and don't smoke anymore its not good for you at all i should know and I'm trying to quit myself hope this helps good luck.

I am glad you have decided to stop - you are being very sensible. My husband is 68 years old and started smoking when he was 12 years old. He has been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the lungs and this has only taken 3 months to come to the surface. He doesn't have very long to live and it is destroying the family to see him gasping for breath. Please do give up smoking.

you and all your clothes, and your car, smell like an ashtray, and repels women...
When you are 50 and struggle to draw each breath, and cannot even walk around the block, much less run, you will know what smoking does to a body, even without cancer.
If you get mouth or nasal cancer, off comes the face or the jaw, or the cheek (s)...
Very painful, very nasty, very deadly.
I know too many who have died young, from chewing, smoking, snuffing, tobacco.
Just get a revolver and play russian roulette now, and save yourself the pain.

darlin, you have already been exposed to smoke, so if there is damage it was probably done long ago, but im not going to say you didn't do any damage, and yes, there is always the chance of cancer... not because you smoke, but because you have been around it alot... like my mom, she didn't smoke, but my dad, and her family did, she died of lung cancer, just because she was exposed... so no matter what you did, there is always a chance of cancer, but it is higher if you smoke.. good luck!! glad you quit

No you will be fine. Unfortunately, some people that have never touched a cigarette in their life, have gotten lung cancer. It does not seem fair at all, but it happens. My best advice would be to quit ASAP. Why take any chances. You certainly have the ball in your court, and I would run with it. Quitting will be your best option overall... Good luck!
