That question is always on my heart. It is difficult to deny your flesh that much. I have slowly given more of myself over to God.... but still plagued by this question deep in my spirit.
Also, I can probably do more good making money and supporting 5 missionaries than I can going somewhere and being one. I give my 10% plus support sponsor kids....I still feel God requires more but maybe its my own guilt

While I'm not sure what you mean by "giving it all up", the fact is that many Christians do very good things. Just this past Sunday, I missionary who has opened a home for orphan children in Malawi, Africa spoke at our church. This country is full of children who are left to fend for themselves because of the extent of the AIDS epidemic there. This program provides these children with homes and, get this, actual adoptive parents. Each home has room for ten children and two adults. So the extent of the sacrifice on both the part of the missionaries and adminstrative staff, and the adoptive parents is astounding, but borne of love for humanity. This is the love of Christ personified. May I add, these missionaries have no central air, and suffer through the heat just like the rest of the population because electricity is sporadic.
However, this mission must be financially supported, therefore some Christians are called to work in the traditional sense. Every part of the body of Christ performs a different function; with the end purpose of revealing the love of Christ to all of humanity.
I could post many different links to Christian missions (as they number in the tens of thousands), but I'll just post these two. The first is the link to the mission I am talking about in the previous paragraph. The second is a link for short-term and long-term missions geared toward feeding the hungry. As to the short-term missions, most of these require the participant to pay for their own plane ticket, room, and board.
Then they go dig wells for villages with no running water in temperatures soaring above 100 degrees.
I hope this answers your question.

Ok, I'll be straight up honest with you since that's what you call for. Probably won't win my the best answer spot but here it is.
Fear. Fear of what others might think of me and also fear that the Lord won't provide and it will make me and Him look stupid. See, we live in a country that many consider to be a christian country but is really more like a whore in God's eyes. It's a big taboo no-no to be a true believer in Christ these days. I mean look at all the responses in other people's answers in other questions. We live in an "anything goes", "whatever works for you", "anti-God" society. No wonder we don't have the balls to proclaim Christ. Shame on us...shame on me!
We know that Christ is the only way but nobody wants to hear it. We know that Christ can change a person, we've seen it. But nobody gives a rip. So like cowards, we proclaim Christ on the Internet (oooh, what faith). If we truly had the guts, we'd tell it like it is out in public.
I wish I had the balls to say "If you receive Christ you'll go to heaven. If you don't, you'll burn in Hell forever." We didn't write the friggin rules, we just state what the rulebook says. Yet we're hated for it. So we hide in our comfy church pews, singing last century hymns with phony smiles on our faces trying to show each other how holy we are while the rest of the world is going to Hell in a handbasket.
If anyone says "it's because we haven't been called yet" that's just a crock of crap. We've all been called. But I've been a coward. Lord GOD! Forgive me!
Ok, there's my answer.

I do give up everything, daily.I don't want to be a house wife, but I am.I dont want to change another diaper, but I do.Ive done it for 16 years, and when I dont want to do it,He leads me through it.Depending on a persons responsibilities you cnannot judge how they serve God,and declare if thats what you are doing they are faithless.Sometimes its in the most meaningless task that you learn your only mission is to LOVE who and where you are in your life.Sometimes you dont get a choice on how he will use you,you just need to be faithful moment by moment. If you are so driven what stops you.

You don't have to give up all and go forth, you can do more good keeping your job, making money and spreading goodwill to all.
It is great to give of yourself (time) but..
Donations, acts of kindness, mentoring, supporting people spreads far and wide. If everyone did these things it would make more difference than a few people quitting there jobs and working at the shelter.

I'm there. But let's say "you will catch more flies with honey than you will with vinegar".
You will get a lot further if you encourage people to love and good works not brow beat them. Show them the love that Jesus has for them that is unforgetable.

Yes you are supposed to give up everything if you are a true christian, and that includes you're computer. You should be out there helping people and not on some internet site preaching.

The Lord has provided. And to just throw it away would be foolish. If you would open your eyes enough to see past your hatred and pride, you would see the works in progress.

You know, what is the point of being on Earth when you spend your entire life thinking about what's AFTER earth? Why can't you enjoy this life as you have it instead of expecting to get a reward after you kick the bucket?

They are hollow believers.
If they lived in Saudi Arabia, they'd be Muslims, they bend in their faith like a reed in the wind. Once Christianity is proven false, they'll all go scientology, if that's what's cool then.
