It's a 92 Honda Accord with 150,000 miles. They are asking for $1,200. I was wondering if this would be a good deal for me to buy this car.

150,000 miles is A LOT! I'd expect troubles "down the road." & WHENEVER you buy a car, it's usually "as is" so you haven't any recourse no matter WHAT happens. No, I would NOT. Even if you buy it from an auto dealer, betcha you won't get a decent warranty, if any. If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't.
& never never never never make a deal with someone that isn't in WRITING. Be sure you're protected. Verbal negotiations aren't worth **** on a bulll. Think!

Forgot to add that Hondas have a good record, but always spend the little extra to have a CREDIBLE mechanic check it out before you make a deposit, or anything. Good luck!

Ask if the seller has any service records. You could take it to a 3rd party to have it checked. Ask when the timing belt and water pump were changed. These 2 pieces are usually changed at the same time. Check the trans. I recently purchased a 96 Mazda 626 with 200K for $1900. It's been a great car. I think Mazda is just as good as any Honda, and usually cheaper.

You can look up its worth at websites, such as the one below.

It is was well taken care of -- regular oil changes, for example -- you might get another 50K miles from the engine and transmission. Does the seller have paperwork supporting the fact he changed the oil every 3,000 miles?

Hondas have good repair records.

I bought my daughter a 92 accord EX. It has been a very good car. If the car you are looking at is an EX it may be worth 1200.00. If not an EX offer 1000.00.

The good thing about Honda's is that they are very reliable and they keep their value. 1200 is not bad for 150k miles, just make sure the regular checkups have been made!

Depends on what maintenance has been done. Unfortunately, people think all Japanese cars are great and will run forever. That car could go another 150,000 or it could puke tomorrow. If not maintained, Jap cars will die soon.
