Hello:

This past summer I had a hair color crisis. I tried to dye my hair dark brown, and it turned a deep reddish-purple color. It was a disaster!

Up until that point I had always had my hair colored in a salon, but I wanted to try it on my own because I hated spending $100 + everytime I needed highlights.

And honestly, it was incredibly expensive to fix. First I had to get a conditioning hair repair treatment done, because if you dye your hair too many times in a short period of time it can cause a ton of damage. Then I had my hair dyed back to blonde, but a few shades lighter than I normally had. And finally my stylist added low-lights (where she did highlights but in a brownish color) to return my hair to it's previous color. To fix it was very time consuming and expensive, and boy have I learned my lesson.

My advise is not to try to fix it on your own. You will most likely end up making it worse. Go to a hair salon ASAP and get it taken care of the right way. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's worth it.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

My sister is a stylist and I've been highlighting my hair for 10 years. Here's what I can tell you:

I'm guessing your hair is really dark; when you put bleach in dark hair, you have to process and reprocess and reprocess in order to lift that orange color from your hair. It will damage your hair pretty badly, especially if you don't have thick hair. Your color has to go through phases of color to get all the way up to blonde. However, if you do have a darker color hair, it's best to see a pro for highlights because they have certain mixes and techniques to prevent damaging hair. Best of luck!!

Either your sections were too thick, hair was too dark, or you didn't leave it on long enough. The opposite color of orange is blue. Use blue shampoo from the beauty supply and leave it in for 3 minutes. repeated use will get a stronger affect. Blue not purple. Try putting the blue shampoo on dry hair for a few minutes.

Bleach it blonde and get your regular hair color highlights

unless you want to make it look even worse, dont do it by yourself.

you will have to go to a professional.

this should be a lesson not to do it by yourself next time!

my brother dyed his hair blue and it turned grey. so he had to go and get his hair stripped at the hair salon. he learned his lesson....

i'd suggest dying it back to your regular color.
or bleach it and then dye it blonde again.
