He only takes it when he lays down for a nap or goes to bed for the night but he will wake up in the middle of the night if he loses it. I go into work around 9 in the morning and I take him to work with me so I can't really let him cry it out there when he takes a nap since its in an office setting. He won't even take the Ortho kinds, he only wants the Gerber Soft Center for newborns since thats what the hospital gave him when he was born. Can anyone help?

Get him started on methadone.

OK this will be hard for both of you but just throw it out. he will cry for a few days but after that it will be okay. trust me it works. if you don't want to try that, you can always cut the end off and tell him that it is broken and that you need to throw it away. he wont let go of that paci without crying a little so you can forget that. he is only still a baby and that is what they do. i would try to take it away at home if possible. even if you have to wait a few days. maybe he can be comforted by something else like a blankie or a teddy. i would try that too. good luck!!

You will just have to take it away. I just did this with my daughter, 19 months. I put her in her own bedroom and took her pacifier away and it was a few restless nights, and even after 2 weeks, she's still not too happy about it. I think it's mostly being in her own room, not the pacifier. But truly, you just have to take it away. I took my son's away at 2 1/2, and it was horrid!! :) Just take it away...I suggest on a Friday, and then by Monday, he should be adjusting...or do it on a holiday, where you have lots of time to devote to this. You HAVE to be consistent if you want this to end...
Good luck!! Get your sleep while you can. :)

my daughter had her pacifier until she was three. I think that kids will give it up when they are ready and it does not really matter what kind of pacifier it is they all work about the same way. my daughter gave hers up at three when she fell with it in her mouth and busted her lip with it and then at her third birthday we told her the Binky fairy need to take it to give to some other little girl or boy that didn't have any. It seemed to work for us but every child is different so good luck.

This problem for us was solved by my son's hamster. Princess got out of her cage one night, found her way to my daughter's room and chewed the ends off of all her binkys, she only had 1 left so we got her to give it to the binky fairy, which in turn left her a Dora doll, but with my other 2 children I just took them cold turkey and that was the end of them, but I don't know if that will work for because of his age,try taking it away at home during naps, then at bedtime, after a few days him won't need it ,YOU NEED TO BE STRONG AND NOT CAVE IN WHEN HE CRIES,good luck. By the way the hamster is just fine, she got out of her cage about 6 times now and we caught her every time.

We had a friend who's son would not give it up so she got a special little box with wrapping paper and a bow and said it was time to give the "soother" to a new little baby who needed it. They wrapped it up and took it into the maternity ward at the hospital and gave it to one of the nurses. The nurse understood what was going on but you could always set it up with someone. It worked really well!

Its a comfort crutch. He wont just magically reach a point where he's ready to do something else like rub the corner of a blanket, or rock to and fro.

Take a few days off and throw all the pacifiers away. It wont take him long to get over it. A few days or so.

It will take you about 3 days to 1 week to get him weaned. You will hear crying and screaming, and you may not get much sleep but I have found that is the only way. You may need to wean him while you are on vacation from work.

My daughter left hers on the plate with cookies for santa and never looked back. Ensure you stress how much santa knows he is a big boy and doesn't need the pacifier anymore.

My son used to carry one pacifier in each hand and have one in his mouth until he was 3. He switched them oftenlike he was juggling them. It was very cute at first until I found out that it ruined his teeth. We had to remove his 4 front teeth. He still asked for them. But when my friend had her baby...I sat my son down and said that she didn't have any money to buy her new baby pacifiers and that he should share his...it worked

well every child is different. my son had that darn thing in his mouth 24/7.... non-stop unless he was eating.. well i seen a child that had crooked teeth and made me worry about my son gettin funky teeth from the binky.. so i just decided one night to put him to bed without it.. he cried for about 10-15 minutes... then went to sleep.. he has never had one since.. he is almost 18 months old now.. and that was about 3 months ago.. its worth a try.. but like i said,, all kids are different.. he might be a lil harder to "break" .
good luck!!
