There is a definitely hiatus on kittens from December till the early spring so you may not be able to find any at this time.
If you do get kittens from the same litter or even from different litters any combination should be a go. I find males and females to be quite different in their "personalities" and you might want to experience a little bit of both!
You may be able to find kittens under a year of age - six to nine months. That way you will avoid a lot of the "kitten crazies" most people experience with the very young ones. And then that's an experience in itself.
I am glad you know that two kittens is best. They will have a great life together.

One of each seems to get along very well...I have two kittens I adopted after their mom died...a boy and a girl...they are doing great...I also have two older cats a boy and a girl too so maybe I am prejudiced...LOL
Either way I think it is an outstanding idea to get two kittens at the same time..they will keep each other company and not get into as much mischief than if you just adopted one cat.

If you get them spayed (which is a MUST) then it really doesn't make a difference. It's all in how the cat is, not thier gender. I've had males and females and they all have different little personalities and all are just as loving as the other. When you go to pick your kittens, just play with them, see which ones are more bonded if you are getting from the same litter, and just see which fits your lifestyle the best. Don't even let gender be a factor :) Good luck

There have been no full-fledged scientific studies done, but it seems that male-male works best, then male-female; female-female seems to be the least likely to work. Of course, many people have two girls without problem. I am assuming you are getting littermates, so it will help that you don't have to introduce them to each other. Get them both fixed and you will have even fewer problems. This will be true with any combo, though.
Personally, I prefer boy cats and have had very few problems, and we have had up to five at once.

cats wont care who they have sex with so its boy and girl the boy will want the female when sexually mature ,the mix makes no difference as long as both cats get sorted ,a male could spray over the house un-neutered and a female will have kittens ,i have had mix of both sexes and same sex cats when picking a cat i go for what i like best out of the litter sex is never an issue as it will be visiting the vet.

I've got 2 boys and 2 girls. No real problems. In general boys tend to be more boisterous and playful. The girls seem to be more laid back. They're all cuddley.
In an ideal world, I suppose 2 of the same sex is best. What sex is up to you. If you get one of each, you need to get the boy neutered at 6 months and the girl after her first heat. You can't put this off or you'll have lots of baby kitties to look after.

well it all depends on how you want to raise them
there are a lot of outcomes from this if you get one of each gender you might end up with kittys later on unless you nueter the cats (i dont suggest this)
if you get 2 males they might have some territorial issues but can also learn to get along
females are usually friendlier than male cats and might have less terretorial problems yet it could still happen
i would suggest 2 femals or a male and female to mix it up a bit

There are no hard and fast rules on this one. Depends on the breed, whether they are pedigree or hybrid and how well they been socialised, among other things. What ever you get , try and get kittens from the same litter or that have been raised together, and have them speyed or neutered as soon after six months as poss.

My personal experience has been that females are much affectionate as kittens. Males are doing the "boy" thing and busy being hyperactive little idiots. The females, as they get older, really do tend to become more solitary. Mine are still affectionate, but on their terms, at their time and in their own way.
My neutered males, while they are little buzz bombs as babies, turn into the real "love me more" babies as they get older. I like all cats, but my "old men" are the most affectionate of the group.

I would have 2 girls.Toms are ok but can fight a lot if they don't get on though if they're from the same litter they should be ok.Toms will spray to spread their scent and this has a bad smell that's hard to get rid of.Remember to get them neutered when they are the right age.
