I don't know, but Buddah died without a sense of peace inhis life. So I would rather believe Christ, wouldn't you?

First of all, it wasn't a parable, though Jesus did often use parables in His teachings. In this particular instance, Jesus saw the woman put the money into the collection box and used it as an opportunity to teach His disciples a lesson about sacrificial giving. The others gave much in amount only, not in heart, because they had so much that they didn't miss it. On the other hand, the poor widow's small donation was actually much greater than all the riches given by the others, because she gave all she had. Through this example, He taught His disciples that, when it comes to giving, what's in the heart is more important than what's in the hand.

I'm sure this poor widow was not the only--or even the first--person to ever do this. You ask why this "parable" was around 2500 years ago, why it's so widespread, and whether this means that Jesus' teachings had a Buddhist influence. It's been around since the beginning of time and happens everywhere all the time, because it is a basic fact of life. It has little to do with Buddha. In fact, since Jesus, the Son of God, is eternal (meaning He existed before time and thus before Buddha), I would say that Buddha had a "Jesus-influence": Jesus simply allowed Buddha to be perceptive enough to recognize this particular truth--though it's a shame that, while he understood certain truths, he never came to fully know or understand the one true God.

A parable is a story. Since all peoples came from Adam and Eve and all spoke the same language until the Tower of Babel, it is totally possible that this was a story that was passed down through the ages and thus we find it in many cultures. As people dispersed after the separation of the languages, they took their stories with them, and as they accepted new religions, they incorporated the stories into their new religions.

Think about this: What you give has more to do with what you have to give than anything else.
If a poor parent on social security the mother makes out of a few pieces of yarn a set of socks for her son. Would he treasure them. Even though they are not worth a lot of money?
Or her daughter a scarf? While they may have many expensive gifts from others. That is a very reasonable concept.
Many people probably thought of that before.

Buddests borrowed it from the KJV Bible. If someone gave all they posessed in this world to the church, which might have been two coins, and another person of wealth only gave one million dollars for example, The person who gave the two coins would be favored more in the eyes of God over the one who gave one million dollars because the poor person gave up their last poession to the Lord. Where as the wealthy man gave only what he felt like giving. The poor person's gift weight more in the eyes of God, for it was a far greater sacrifice offering than that of the rich man.

Interesting. I didn't know it, and have no facts on it, so I wont deny or accept it. Can you provide a source for that Buddhist story?

No matter who you must hear it from to accept it, it is still a wonderful parable I think....

All the Messengers of the One True God revealed the same Truth, and no One among Them contradicts each other. But followers of each religion claim this eternal Truth to be their exclusive possession, while non-believers only see contradiction! That is the problem of our limited minds.
As true believers, we learn and try to apply the divine lessons from various Holy Books in order to gain some portion of this true knowledge.

The parable is of a universal truth, one that Jesus (aka God the Son) would surely know. Others figured it out before, too. That you would read it and say "well duh!," only speaks to the obvious nature of its truth.

No surprise here if every culture had this parable somewhere in it.

because generosity and humility are universally considered to be desirable traits, regardless of one's cultural or religious background.

I'm sure you'll find a similar parable in many, many other belief systems.
