The cheapest way is go without your girlfriend but however these days some men use a plastic ring from a Christmas bon bon or toy shop to propose then they shop with there girlfriend so she gets to choose what color she wants the type of stone how large the stone is the width of the band ,you see there are many things to consider so it is best if you pick it together .But if I were you I would do a little research and find out what the average cost is and try to make an agreement with her the limit you both will spend ..You know on average a man pays 1200 to 4000 usd but there are plenty over 10000 to 1.6 million

I think that is a good price range. It will let you get a good diamond, nice band, quality ring that will be beautiful. At the same time. if she say, loses it in the ocean (like my friend did) it won't put you out of a year's salary. That much money shows that you saved intentionally for it, which is important. No girl wants a cracker jack ring. Also, I highly recommend Robbins Brothers. They have many locations, including Fullerton and Glendale. My ring is from Robbins Brothers, and they have a lifetime guarantee on all diamond rings, if you bring it in every 6 months to get checked on. (Costco won't do that.) They also clean it for free anytime you come in. They have nice lounges that you wait in with free coffee and soda, bridal magazines, etc and so I like to go there just to relax!! Also, the people there are so nice! (I go to the San Diego one.) You would think they wouldn't be as excited about people's weddings working around people getting married every day, but they truly take an interest in you and want to make everything perfect. They can even help you plan the proposal! Every experience I have had with them has been 100% positive. (PS My ring is in that price range, my fiance helped design it and it is the most perfect amazing ring I have ever seen in my life. I loved that it was custom made for me too!) Good luck! I hope she says yes!

If money is an issue, try an antique jewelry store. Sometimes they have awesome wedding rings that are very valuable. In particular, some from the Art Deco era. You will also find the prices to be negotiable as well.
Also... your girl would have something unique, creative and not like the rest of the rings on the fingers of her GF's.
You would forever go down in history of your family for a move like this :)

I would think either of those have the best deals. You do realize that the money you are suggesting is a "heck" of a lot of money to spend on an engagement ring? I mean, it's nice of you, but perhaps you don't realize that you can get spectacular rings for well under a grand.

I would say January. January is everyone's slow time. No one is buying anything cause they don't have any money after Christmas. The day after Christmas they do have some good sales sometimes. But, personally if it was me I would shop sometime in January. JC Penney's usually has some good buys. I've never went in and looked at their rings but I see sale ads all of the time. May God bless your engagement and marriage.

My aunt is a jeweler, and she has always said that @ Valentine's Day, the selection (for your $$) is greater. You may have more choices for the same amount of money. All the designers usually release new designs early in the year. Stores usually have great sales for Valentine's Day....

I heard you can find good deals if you go to the "jewelry
district"; like here in Chicago, where I live, they have such a
district on Wabash Ave. downtown. Have you tried a pawn
shop? I don't know your financial situation - didn't mean to
offend you!!!

Try a department store during the holidays. Kohl's, Sears, etc. have really good jewelry deals during this time.
