Some people have never dealt with depression so they have no experience as to how to cope with someone else's. They may not be able to acknowledge their own emotions either. If they feel they are to blame or they may have taken part in the depression, they may feel guilty and don't know how to deal. Its really more of trying to avoid, rather than thinking its an inconvenience. Hope it gets better.

I'm assuming that you are either going through this or know someone that does. My suggestion would be to do some research and find a book that best describes how you or the person you know is feeling. A reputible book with information from educated counsalors. It could be that the parents just don't get it. I used to not understand depression. I was one of those that thought just snap out of it, you have no reason to be upset, until I felt a bit depressed for a while after delivering a baby. I wanted that baby more than anything else in this world and to have her here was priceless, and yet I spent every night crying! Now I understand. Sometimes it takes experiencing it to understand it. Try getting them some resources and politely give it to them. Say, I know you don't understand how I feel, so I got some information to help you so that you will know how to help me. I really need you right now. They may just be scared. If they just don't care than find someone that does. You or the person you know deserves it! Hope this helps!

It is hard for parents to understand why they are depressed since it is something they can not physically see like a broken leg. If they had a broken leg then they take them to a doctor ,get a cast and eventually the child would recover. Depression is an emotion and is harder to treat. They feel their child should just snap out of it but some parents do not realize that they can't. Some parents can't deal with their own emotions let alone some one elses.

Depression is not something any of us wants, needs or asks for. Great life, money or whatever, it doesn't matter, it happens. Many, many people do not understand depression, all the aspects of it or don't care or don't want to know. This is our wonderful world, and it's society teachings. People don't know how to think, act or behave in regards to someone Else's depression.

Perhaps you don't understand what happens as a parent
...............the child pretends they don't have a problem....the child pretends they have perfectly cured his/her problem by him/herself.
That's what my daughter, 16, said when I found multiple scars and she admitted she was cutting/slashing/self-mutilating. She screamed it was none of my business and that she wanted to stay with her father....so how's that working for you?
So I maturely went to court to get her court ordered into counseling have the scars checked by M.D. for infection, and hopefully she gets help.
Parents do relate on a mature level, and many times it is not appreciated by the child. Perhaps the child has not learned gratitude....and forgiveness....and to value everything and everyone.
You cannot force a child to appreciate life....you cannot force a child to shake themselves out of depression...many times it took them years to get there and finally admit they are depressed. And it may take years for them to admit to the counselors "WHAT'S BUGGING THEM".
A parent cannot fix the child...although they'd love to.

because most parents are the cause of the children's depression and they feel bad so they don't know how to deal with it.

Because alot of parents don't understand what exactly depression is. They probably don't realize that depression is something that you can't bring on yourself and it's not something that goes away by thinking "happy thoughts". It's a disease of the mind and people just don't get it.

because people have a tough time dealing with their own emotions. having to deal with someone else's is a no-win situation. Most people are better leaving emotional issues with professionals.
