my mam wears dentures and my dog has jst chewed them into tiny little bits. i no this may sound funny but she is absolutely devastated, she was supposed to be going out tomorrow night and it's her birthday next week and we are going to be having a party for her. i would think the dentist would still have an impression of them...does anyone no if this is correct and if so, how quickly could she get a new set? she also gets her dental treatment free. is there anything anyone can suggest and please if you are going to put funny answer, i'd appreciate if you didnt because i am desperatly trying to find a way of sorting this out for my mam, i hate to see her so upset!

THANKYOU everybody for all your positive advice and very kind words, they are very much appreciated. My mam had left them wrapped up in her bag as she was eating a curry (it stains the teeth so she had to take them out) and she left her bag on the kitchen table and went into the sitting room for all of 5 mins and our dog (puppy) climbed onto the table and got them!!! we all cannot believe it!! I'm going to ring her dentist for her tomorrow morning and even if she is without them for a week then thats fine she is ok with that just aslong as she is sorted for party in 2 weeks time! fingers crossed im going to ring every dentist i can find tomorrow also for advice too. THANKS again everyone for your quick replies.

Two correct answers and 18 from people who have no idea what they are talking about. The impressions were ruined when the model was poured into them and then removed. The models were ruined when the dentures were made on them.
I keep any bits that were returned to me on file indefinitely, but they are only potentially useful in case a repair is needed. They are RARELY useful for making a new denture.
I keep the custom impression trays that I made and, if they were returned by the lab, I also keep the bite registration rims. With these two things, if it was necessary to REALLY rush a remake, it might possibly be done in less than a week.
I hate to say this, but if your mum gets her dental work done for free, I imagine the dentist does not take these steps to preserve the records and she might have to start completely from scratch.
In the states, we have places that offer dentures within 24 hours. This is indeed possible, because the dentist and lab are devoted solely to this service, but it isn't generally free... Or much good...

So nice to see someone caring about thier Mam, Yes the Dentist should have an impression of her teeth, get on the phone first thing Monday morning, if it can't be done they should be able to put a temporary set in, for the weekend at least. X

I don't think any dentist can get them fixed as soon as you need them. Your best solution is to tell your mam she is beautiful and everyone knows how special she is to them and nobody will care if she doesn't have teeth in her mouth. What they would care about is mam not showing up for her own birthday. You may also want to let those who have false teeth to leave them at home, it could be a fun day for everyone.

most places that make dentures keep the mold for a few years. call the dentist and explain the situation. some denture clinics can make a new set in mere days, but I'm afrais she is going to have to suffer without them for a few days.
PS. My dog chewed my mom's dentures when I was a child, so it isn't unusual. Apparently, the dog smells the food particles on them, and thinks they are food.

well,i dont think dentsit keep impresions after delivering the dentures, but if your mom's still has them, then she is very lucky.
if not, then you should ask the dentist fpr a new set,it would need like 2 to 4 weeks .
one last thing,if the insurance has covered the first set then they might not approved the new one .they usually pay every five years for a new set of dentures.
im sorry for your mom.and im sorry for you.

Contact the dentist as soon as he is in the office and explain what happened. They should be able to make another pair of dentures for her. Probably not soon enough for the events but this is life. Talk to your Mother nicely until she accepts this.

Out of curiosity, where were they that the dog got hold of them? The dog chewed them because they have her (familiar) scent on them. Yes, the dentist will have impressions of her teeth. If they have a really good lab technician, they can get them done in a day or two at the most. Request a "rush" on them. Good luck.

THE DENTIST WILL NOT KEEP THE DENTURE IMPRESSIONS. THE IMPRESSIONS ARE SENT TO A DENTAL LABORATORY FOR FINAL PROCESSING INTO THE FINAL DENTURES. THE DENTURES WILL NEED TO REMADE FROM SCRATCH FOR BEST RESULTS. TELL THE DENTIST THAT YOU ALSO NEED SOME "ECONOMY" DENTURES MADE FOR A SITUATIONS LIKE THIS ONE.
IN THIS WAY A BACKUP SET IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
