he is 3 1/2 months old and is a English Springer Spaniel. he's trying to hump all the other dogs, isn't he too young for that? why is he doing this? oh, we named him Hunter because he is a bird dog, i love his name and he is so cute!

I have a male spring spaniel too, he's 8 now and he started trying to hump everything when he was about 4 months old. Once he gets used to the dog, he should stop. We got our's fixed when he was 2 (after he impregnanted our other springer on accident) and he would still do it if the other dog is in heat. Since he's still a baby just pull him away from the dog and say no, he'll get bored with it pretty soon anyways...

Not Normal, He should be trying to hump males as well! Which I'm sure he is, Its just a Dominiance thing Even female Dogs do it. I wouldnt let him do it..He needs to be passive. You dont want him to be an aggressive Bully When he grows up... Love The Name Hunter..I had a Foster Golden Named That...Great for a Springer!

Make sure he is nuetered. That will help.
To Neuter or Not to Neuter?
As an animal behaviorist, I always advise my clients to neuter their pet dogs. Females are spayed and males are castrated. I have three good reasons for this. The first is medical. Dogs who have been sexually altered live longer, healthier lives because they are not able to develop certain cancers having had their sexual organs removed. The second reason is behavioral. Male dogs are calmer, less apt to challenge other dogs and persons, especially children who may be perceived as lower in social position in the group. They are also less likely to roam.
Females are simply more comfortable not having to deal with their heat cycle once or twice a year. The third is reproductive. Unless you are a professional breeder, leave the breeding to the pros who understand genetics, care and placement. With tens of millions off unwanted dogs being euthanized each year for the lack of good homes, there is no reason for casual breeding. If you love your dog, have him or her neutered. It's the right thing to do

That's a sign of dominance. Time to teach him you're the boss.

http://www.leerburg.com has a lot of information on dominant dogs and how to become your dog's pack leader.

He'll learn, you just have to teach him.
