Why are they strategically different? There must be a reason.

I'm not an idiot.. I am looking at the keypad on my PC & the phone right in front of me... they are in different orders: PC = 789 456 123, phone = 123 456 789.

There is a strategical reason why the order is different. It is more on frequency of usage and also some evolutionary ergonomics :)

They are different in order because the numpad on the keyboard is based on the logical use of a calculator since it uses most of it's function for "calculations" anyway...evolution? Yes... is the word "compute" similar as the word "calculate" ? now that is logical right?

Let's move to the phone..brief history... phones were ROTARY before hey became in a MATRIX placement...1 was assigned to the top for the reason that it can only make a fraction of the rotation so that it can only do one pulse...then two then three until 0. People have been used to seeing the 1 on the top so the new phone models were formed based on the rotary with 1 on top...hope it's the best answer you have...

Just one funny question...Why is the "0" always on the bottom???
That.. I just don't know hahahahahh

The old dial phones in the USA started with 1 and went down the dial to 0, so people were used to using and seeing 1 at the top of the phone and 0 at the bottom. They kept the basic idea with the phone keypads when they started using touch tone phones. Also, it made the phone look different from data entry machines so people didn't confuse it with a data entry machine of some kind.

The keyboard matches the adding machine format, also called 10-key. This has been the common data entry format for nearly 100 years (starting with a US census) using the old IBM punch cards.

Are you sure that is your question, because the keyboard and the phone are exactly the same. It is the phone and the calculator that is different and different for one reason, so you can develop speed on the calculator. It is unnatural on the phone #'s and that is done on purpose, in order to make you look, and for the phone company to expand numbers,exchanges,etc... Next time, know what you are asking!
