I experienced lots of dud dates on the internet. I have been super selective now and been looking for quite a while. Finally, this woman I think is tremendous and feel I can go far with her. I do not want to blow it. She and I are both easy going, not bar flies types. I am 38, she is 35. Live in big city.
What are some good first dates? Please give me many ideas. Thanks.

We live in Minneapolis so outside activities are probably not a great idea.

Big city??? Go for coffee, or drinks at a nice restaurant. Dont turn it into dinner or movies or something like that till second date (at least). The first date is about GETTING TO KNOW EACHOTHER... You might realize right away that you dont like her and be stuck with her for a whole dinner or movie!

Well first of all you already know it might not work out. That's a good thing. You don't expect this girl to be someone you are going to madly fall in love with on the first date.
Secondly, if you have been talking to her for a while you surely have learned what she likes and it's great that you live in a big city. Find something to do that you both like, or even better something that neither of you have ever done before (which I have always thought would be a fun date).
Being 30 myself, just pleast don't do dinner and a movie. You don't learn anything about the other person that way and that is a very uncomfortable dinner when you are both trying to make a good impression.
Not knowing anymore about this girl than you have shared that's really all anyone can say.

Go for a walk in the park and talk to get to know one another. Take a drive and do some site seeing. Go to a nice relaxed restaurant so you may enjoy each other. Bike rides, bowling, roller blading or a relaxed night club w/some Jazz. Its around Christmas time so you could go to some of the holiday parks and see the lights and let jack frost nip your nose as you sip on hot coco coco. Got to the zoo. Movies are nice but really dont get to communicate through them. Theres lots to do but its what you 2 like. Good luck. Some of the best dates is when you dont have to spend alot and its just the 2 of you.

I agree-coffee date is always good. I met my boyfriend online and our first date was at a coffee house. We talked for hours and really hit it off. I think the main thing I (finally) learned after dating online for a year is to not be too quick to judge. Sometimes, people really grow on you and you might not feel a spark for a few dates.

I can say where not to go.
Movies: because you can't talk and you can't look at each other
Spagetti restaurant: spagetti sauce on your shirt is bad
BBQ restaurant: BBQ sauce on your face is WORSE
Biker's roadhouse
Very loud bar or club
Some place real cheap
I'd find a place to eat that's quiet or semi-quiet for you to talk. Find something to do for a before-meal or after-meal activity that lets you have fun while you talk.

well, maybe take her out to a romantic dinner maybe a bunch of flowers. surprise her with something that will make her feel special and loved. i think that might help
