I think your family probably thinks you need to grow up, sorry to be so blatent but I no what there going through I am 17 and my partner is 21 he plays stupid pranks all the time that lead me to thinking JUST GROW UP. I annoys you when you know that person has intelligence so why are they acting there shoe size and not there age. But I do also think your parents need to have a laugh and not take everything so serious. Of course its normal to fall out with parents I do with mine every day but not over things like e-mails. Maybe they are just worried.

Do not worry. I am 33 and I still have some troubles with my family, specially my mother... I have once questioned the reasons why she was critic with her, and she just told me that we were too alike, that when she watches me she feels as if she were watching herself .
I think that she has made a lot of wrong choices in her life. ( as my parents are Japanese descent -probably she married too young at the age of 23).
I'm still single, have my career and I do not really care about marriages. Parents are all human beings with their frustrations, anxieties and weakness. My parents are ageing now and they are becoming more and more conservative now. Last year I have my hair dyed red as I work with events (both academic and cultural), when I went back home to visit them for Xmas, my father criticised me so much because of my hair, despite the fact that they had already gotten used to my eventual changes of style ...
I decided to try my best and I just do not overreact when I have to listen to their criticism.
My hair is black again, I still like alternative rock, and I have my own life...

Yes people do fall in and out with their parents, but at the age of 21 its time to be mature and stop doing the petty things that you know will obviously upset them. Your living on your own so prove to them that you are responsible enough and able to handle things

of course it is. to me it sounds like you can not decide if you want to let go or hang on. i think your daunted by it all, on the one hand your moving on independent etc on the other hand you do not not want your parents to forget about you just because you,ve moved out. the fact that you send the emails that you no winds them up shows you want a reaction from them and your getting it. I think we tend to take the piss with our families as their tends to be the mentality that "o their family you got to let it be and forgive and forget" and we then tend to tolerate it, but be honest you seem like an intelligent guy, would you keep send a friend emails that you knew full well were winding them up?? and if you would how long would they tolerate it??

its common to have falling outs with family, and the ones you love time to time. no matter what your age. You need to focus on where you want to be in live and you need to talk to your parents and work things out with them, i am sure things will be alright and yous will see eye to eye after. But no need to stress about it too much, like i said its common to have fights and misunderstanding with parents no matter the age. As long as both sides of the party is willing to work it out.

yeah it is normal. People don't always see eye-to-eye and that can cause tension. Don't worry, just try to talk it out.
